I'm shedding tears for this poor beleaguered Cybertruck owner. #becauseIamlaughingsohard

This is one of those "you might just as well laugh as cry" moments.
There seem to be a lot of those these days.

I agree. It won't help anyone if we're miserable and anxious all the time. Certainly we should all be doing what we reasonably can to help deal with the political, social, and environmental issues we face, but otherwise we need to live our lives as well and as fully as we can.

He had a head start on that.

On the upside, the beleaguered neighbour will soon have a new and hopefully much more functional neighbour.

Seriously, if you meet 80% of the qualifications, and you would like to get the job, go ahead and apply.

I wince for the poor neighbour, who spent 1.5 hours listening to this nonsense and did their best to get the OP to see the light.

Their aesthetic choices are all of a piece with their political beliefs. They don't know how to assess reality.

Laura also represented herself as feeling responsible for her family, i.e., she hates even the idea of teaching school, but feels she must to keep Mary in school.
Later in life when she was a celebrated author, her sisters and their husbands were on relief, and she never helped them financially.

The Ingalls only had to pay for Mary's books, clothes, spending money, and trainfare to and from school. Since they were saving the cost of her food, they wouldn't have been spending significantly more on her than on their other daughters.

I got rid of my set a few years ago. There is a lot to love about the LHOTP books, but the racism and dishonest representations became too much for me.
Mary Ingalls's education was state-funded (tuition, room and board), *not* a result of hard work and sacrifice on the part of the Ingalls family.

Wow, if you really hadn't ever knitted before a few weeks ago, that is seriously impressive work from a beginner knitter! Knitting has a steep learning curve.

The interactive virtual exhibit got a little too real.

Don't forget to enjoy whatever good things you have in your life, even if some of those good things are stupid little things that give you a lot of pleasure, and to take good care of yourself. 10/

It's important for us all to bear in mind that while we have an obligation as citizens and human beings to be reasonably informed as to what's going on and to do what we can to help others, but we also have lives that have to be lived. 9/

The "surrounded by Trump supporters on a daily basis" situation is always a special mental health challenge in itself. #mydeepestsympathies

These are hard times, and things are not likely to get better, but I think, despite everything, we can find a certain balance and make our individual lives worthwhile. 8/

This should make me moderately informed without my getting sucked into the maelstrom, which will do neither me nor anyone else any good. 7/

Another thing I've done is try to curb the doomscrolling. I've set up a folder of bookmarks to decent-ish news organizations with a Canadian slant and am making it a rule to visit a few of those links every day, where I scan the headlines and read some articles. 6/

I'm asking myself, what would be the best way for me to help with the climate crisis, or help get Doug Ford out of office? I'm open to suggestions on both of these questions, by the way! 5/

I am for instance currently researching volunteer opportunities and trying to figure what work/organization/cause would be a good fit for my skills and the most effective use of the four hours a week I could give. 4/

I'm defining a good year as one in which I am productive and focused, don't allow myself to be sidetracked or overwhelmed, and get on with the things that I am responsible for doing, which includes doing whatever I reasonably can do to help make things better. 3/

My New Year's resolution for 2025 was that whatever happens, *I* am going to have a good year, and by that I don't mean that I'm going to fiddle while Rome burns. 2/

I'm not directly supporting/benefiting Rowling and I'm keeping existing goods out of landfills, so I think I'm steering a reasonably ethical path here. 5/
