The problem with … the two problems with .. AMONG the problems with people like Natalie Jackson is their credulous and sheeplike willingness to accept the government’s narrative about who is a “hero” or a “villain” based on dubious claims, /1

Tyrants view educated citizens as their greatest enemy. Slaveholders stopped the enslaved from learning to read. Nazis burned books. Dictators censor media. That’s why Trump is attacking education, science, museums, and the arts – to prevent us from learning. It's Fascism 101.

Trump is trying to destroy universities because college educated people don’t vote for Republicans enough.

It is like "America First" is becoming "America Alone" and I think "they" are not going to like that.

Yes. This may take several more rounds of big national protests. They grow every time and that's okay. Let's all show up. (I will technically be on vacation on Saturday, but we're going to find the local protest and be there.)

He’s going to be fired because he outed the fact that Musk arranged with Hegseth to get a top secret briefing at the Pentagon. Trump and his Chief of Staff didn’t even know about it. As usual, in Trump World, the person who does the right thing is the one who is punished.

It works. The government here largely works. Because we are so spoiled by how well it works, we are letting a fool convince us it is broken.

This country is becoming unrecognizable. What we’re seeing is state-funded fear. We’ve warned people: keep filming, go live on social media so these moments are documented and shared. This wasn’t a case involving masked ICE agents—but that’s happening too.

Abrego Garcia's wife: "I will not stop fighting until I see my husband alive. Kilmar, if you can hear me, stay strong. God hasn't forgotten about you. Our children are asking when you will come home ... they miss their dad so much."

This is the answer. Stand together.

"What kind of weak ass man can’t even make a request of a small Central American nation? How does Trump think he’ll negotiate with Xi Jinping if he can’t even make a simple request of Bukele?"

Your regular reminder that almost everything Trump is getting away with is not because of presidential strength, but because of congressional weakness and judicial deference. The constitutional tools are already there to fix this, but those who can fix it are refusing to do so.

There will be no restoration of a constitutional republic until he is not only removed from power but repudiated as having never legitimately held it. The system simply can't fit back together again without that. You can't shatter the foundation to this degree and then try to rebuild on top of it.

I have the same suspicion. Both this and the decision to send planes to El Salvador on March 15 in spite of Boasberg's order seem to come from him. Then he goes out and shrieks on TV, including on TV that SCOTUS watches.

Of a piece with my podcast today. My friend of 51 years and I saying the same thing (plus I want them arrested for contempt of court - today)

This is yet another unbelievable example of where we are. All for a venal, egotistical, viciously incompetent buffoon.

If you’re wondering why, as I have been, here’s the answer. From Ben Meiselas. open.substack.com/pub/meidasto...

The Trump administration is attacking unions' right to collective bargaining. Liz Shuler, president of the largest federation of unions in the country, explains why this should matter to all of us.

The problem is sociopathic corporate greed. 🧐

“anything we can actually do, we can afford” stamp this on the head of anyone who asks how we can afford universal health care or universal child care or public pensions or free college

It’s a recalibration of economic control. Oligarchs don’t live paycheck to paycheck. They have the capital to buy market dips and recoup faster, acquiring more assets at fire sale prices along the way. When the dust finally settles, they will own more. The rest of us will own less. A lot less.

Last week, I wrote about how authoritarianism leads to poverty and corruption. Feels like an appropriate moment to post it again. www.theatlantic.com/magazine/arc...

This is a big deal. Spread the word. But it’s tiny compared to the totality of what’s happening at NIH. Cure Research for all cancers, Alzheimer’s, everything is being gutted. Intentionally. It’s all getting burned to the ground but the news isn’t getting out. The new cures won’t be there for you.

This is correct.

Republicans want to use an accounting trick to hide the true cost of Trump's tax cuts for the wealthy in their budget bill. Meanwhile, they're hacking away at regulatory rules that protect consumers, workers, and the environment.  The GOP works for the oligarchs — not you.

The only relevant political point is that Republican members of Congress are all supporting these tariffs 100%. They could stop them at any moment. Each day is on them. Everyone with a messaging bullhorn needs to make that clear. They can pull the plug now or pay the price at the polls next year.

Saturday the 5th is fast approaching. Like Joe said “know your rights!”

💯

👇🎯 The only solution now fully consistent with being an actual democracy & not having this remain a weaponized tool of mass voter suppression/disenfranchisement is automatic universal voter registration & free passports for every US citizen.

Exactly: yes, money can influence elections, and yes, so can propaganda and vote suppression and gerrymandering. But amazing what you can overcome when people just show up.

No lies told here.

At present the US simply lacks the capacity to render assistance to whatever degree the current admin might even want to. The US has/had a whole agency tasked with dealing with these situations. It was systematically pulverized over two months. Its final employees were terminated last week.

I’m just so fucking disappointed in everyone who didn’t give a shit about what putting a fascist in power would actually mean, and don’t click on the link, because I’m including the NYT in that.

France’s institutions defended its democracy, upholding the law. South Korea’s institutions defended its democracy, upholding the law. Brazil’s institutions defended its democracy, upholding the law. Only America’s decided a criminal must be allowed to break its laws and destroy its democracy.

They love this “run the government like a business” canard coz it conjures images of efficiency and accountability. The reality is, it’s about increasing profits for the few over the wellbeing of the many. If the government operated the way a business does, the citizenry should rightfully revolt.

Imagine calling yourself the master race and have to resort to erasing the achievements of minorities to make yourself feel better.

In light of everything happening, I wrote about how the KKK in the 1920s felt unstoppable, about the people that fought against them anyway, and about how fascism always fails. dansinker.com/posts/202…
