History proves that perseverance wins. From the #Suffragettes' fight for the vote, to the battle by #Rejoiners for Britain's future in the #EU, democracy is never set in stone. My article on International Women’s Day and the power of persistence: tinyurl.com/4fwhphc7 #IWD2025 #Democracy #Brexit

Just wondering if there is anyone in the UK govt tracking DOGE activities? Lots of extremely well qualified US folks being thrown out of their jobs. Relocation offers?? Nuclear weapons & sub specialists, clean energy & bio-medical researchers are categories that spring to mind. Just asking.

So many examples of the BBC failing to explain to UK citizens what is going on at this very important time.

Punchy from Labour MP Clive Lewis He writes that PM Starmer's refusal to choose between Europe and the US is "dangerously misguided" given the latter's "evolving internal politics" "Ambiguity now is not strategic flexibility – it is political negligence with potentially catastrophic consequences"

Former UK Defence Secretary Sir Ben Wallace, always a sane voice, tells the BBC the Russian economy could collapse in 18 months. And that the US pulling out of NATO wouldn’t be the end of the world. Europe has the resources and technical skills if necessary to replace US security.

‘It’s what anyone would do,’ says Trump after Russia’s latest bombardment of Ukraine. Funny, but I don’t know anyone who finds this acceptable.

When people say science isn’t political, point them to this story. A clear example of political interference - directing money towards a study to which we already know the answer. There is no link. www.theguardian.com/...

FYI.

It's clear that while Trump is in the White House, the USA will not be an ally of democratic Europe, and is indeed an adversary. Despite the desperate thinking of some, this applies equally to the UK, and the only valid response is to commit fully to Europe. www.theguardian.com/us-news/2025...

Remember folks that the information Trump is refusing to share with Ukraine was collected on British soil. The main US listening station is at Menwith Hill in Yorkshire. Why wasn't Britain consulted about denying to our ally information obtained here?

Green ambitions. UK govt planning to cut funding for GB Energy, the state-owned company set to drive renewable energy. Cut from £28bn to £15bn to £8.3bn to ?? Another win for fossil fuel companies. Manifesto pledge?? How long will Ed Miliband remain in the cabinet?

“Reform UK like to wrap themselves in the Union Jack, but at the slightest breeze it is pulled back to reveal they’re clad head to toe in the Kremlin’s colours.” 🔴 Punchy piece by Labour MP @bengoldsborough.bsky.social for @politics-co-uk.bsky.social 👇 www.politics.co.uk/mp-comment/2...

Why is Richard Tice so keen to rubbish @adrianramsay.bsky.social's proposal to tax extreme wealth? Let's just say he has an estimated net worth of £40m. And has made extensive use of an offshore trust in Jersey, a notorious centre of tax avoidance. What a public-spirited patriot! #bbcqt

Who radicalised him?

The war, the geopolitical uncertainty and the new arms race started by Putin have left Europe with no choice. Europe must be ready for this race, and Russia will lose it like the Soviet Union 40 years ago. From today, Europe will arm itself more wisely and faster than Russia.

The question about the 2020 election is the sickest, apparently requiring job candidates to deny reality in order to be appointed. Dangerous, horrible stuff.

@profjacob.bsky.social @mikegalsworthy.bsky.social in case you didn't hear. Sums up the mood of the UK on Brexit youtu.be/rqVkK9ZgY44?...

Putin: "We do not need anything that is foreign, but we will not give up what is ours. And we need such an option that would ensure the stable development of our country in peace and security." Says the country that occupied a part of #Ukraine, Georgia...

⚡️ Poland, Lithuania signal openness to French nuclear deterrence for Europe. "This readiness of France, this is something very promising," Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk told reporters in Brussels on the sidelines of an EU summit.

Ukrainian elections: See if you can spot the main differences from Russia and Belarus

Putin was counting on Trump. He was Russia’s only hope. And Trump is now delivering for Putin.

Through the lens of “The hard men of the world are Trump, Putin, Netanyahu, Jinping (maybe Modhi) this is all perfectly, but deeply regrettably, logical. How Europe responds is the issue: we must speak and act with a unified voice (no dissent - Oban where are you?) and enlist Turkey, Auz, Can, NZ, J

Extraordinary! Nick Robinson sails through asking Rishi Sunak about being Chancellor during the pandemic without a single question about the massive corruption around PPE purchasing - Political Thinking on BBC2 for a whole hour.

What Trump/Vance are doing in the US is what Farage/Reform want to do in the UK. It’s that simple. If you vote Reform, that’s what you’re voting for. Anti vax quackery, demonisation of minorities, shredding state capacity. And bending the knee to Putin.

Recent developments have left Reform UK exposed to attack in a way Farage is not used to — and he is coping poorly His bluster in the commons yesterday was a case in point. He was uncomfortable, shrinking The incoherence of Farage's Ukraine stance speaks volumes👇 www.politics.co.uk/politicslunc...

She won't yield to a bully.

"This is a truly shocking conflict of interest. Is Peter Mandelson visiting Palantir as a representative of the Government - or as an emissary of his ugly lobbying group looking after his own financial interests?" www.thenational.scot/news/2497842...

🚨I promised I'd say more on the Royal Society and Elon Musk, so here it is. 🚨 I've resigned my position as Associate Editor at Royal Society's journal Open Science in protest at their lack of action over Elon Musk. My op-ed in @theguardian.com www.theguardian.com/commentisfre...

Appeasing Trump is not realpolitik. Realpolitik is grasping the fact that Trump is an enemy of democracy allied with Putin. He is not a troublesome ally. He is an enemy. There's no bringing him onside. There's only letting him use our desperation to manipulate us.

2 day change -1,400 (always a tweet)

Support for the orange fascist by UK Tories has not aged well has it? “JACOB REES-MOGG has backed Donald Trump to be Britain’s biggest ally after Brexit, insisting the US will be more critical to our foreign policy than it ever has been.”

It seems Moscow's quite pleased with how the last few days have gone. Today's Russian papers: · “Russia can't conceal its malicious pleasure…” · “The Western system is crashing like a house of cards.” · Kremlin “New US foreign policy configurations largely aligned with Russia’s” #ReadingRussia

Seeing Kemi Badenoch respond to matters of unprecedented geopolitical importance reminds me of an anxiety dream I used to have about agreeing to play drums at a charity concert with the Rolling Stones & remembering on the night that I can’t play the drums.

House Republicans pushed through a draconian budget resolution this week, but the fight isn’t over. Democrats are mobilizing, voters are speaking out, and there’s still time to stop the worst of it. Catch up with Week in Wins.

This is Marco Rubio explaining how the USA promised to defend Ukraine forever if they got rid of their nuclear arsenal left after the Soviet Union fell. This is why lil marco was sinking into the couch. He was hoping we wouldn’t find it…so don’t RT right now this very second.

Times Square 🇺🇸🇺🇦✊

Remarkable to see so many of those who talked up "Global Britain" in the pre and post Brexit fantasy now deliberately talking our country down and saying we can't move without US For the first time in years, we look grown up, and whatever you might think of Starmer, then that's to be applauded.

Reform UK's climate denialism could devastate the very towns and cities they want to represent “Offshore wind has created thousands of jobs around the Humber. We can't afford for Reform UK to reverse 20 years of good work” www.bigissue.com/opinion/refo...

A lovely man and a brilliant broadcaster. Henry was very kind to me at a point in my career when the encouragment of a bona fide legend of the airwaves was incredibly valuable. He was as comfortable in light entertainment as he was in hard news and it was a privilege to sit and bask in his memories.

The European Commission proposed making $104.97 billion available to support EU-made clean manufacturing, streamlining public procurement processes and simplifying state aid rules to give Europe's ailing industries a boost reut.rs/3EU7yS9

Labour are heading to India when they should be heading to Brussels. It's not difficult: pile up every other trade deal in the world, and it won't even come close to compensating for the damage done by Brexit. But they remain cowards. www.theguardian.com/world/2025/f...

How about instead of profiling the “personalities” saying horrible things at far right conferences, we profile the people who paid to put on those conferences. Cmon the billionaires pushing this poison have names & faces.

Press regulation needs to be strengthened.
