And that’s making me reflect on how much other series were inspired by Fist of the North Star and other artists were trying to draw like Tetsuo Hara, so they were copying those proportions and the unique face shapes started to become recognized as “an anime thing” rather than a Stallone caricature

The overgags later on feel like the marketing guys coming in after the fact and putting DO THIS MORE flags on everything they heard was popular; GOTG mitigated a bit by declaring itself "the funny one" out of the gate I think

Apparently, a lot of TOEI's odd choices for the show are themselves memes/references to older shows they did 1980s and before, but mostly lost to time esp for the western base
