Since the "Obamacare = Romneycare!" myth is popping up again, let's review: 1. Romneycare wasn't really Romneycare. It was passed by the *Democratic state legislature,* and while Romney did sign it, he vetoed 8 sections of it, with his veto immediately overridden. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Massach...

I kind of miss when every presidential act wasn’t predicated on being an emergency.

These govt employees are not in an undercover operation, not in a covert operation. Their role is clear. But their individual identities are not. Recipe for impunity. No transparency. No accountability. www.foxla.com/news/paramou...

I was tied up yesterday and so am just catching up on Abrego Garcia now. One thought: DOJ has been moving MS-13 members *from* the US *to* El Salvador to *avoid* having to prosecute them—according to NYT and El Faro, as a result of what is reportedly a corrupt deal w Bukele

So I guess it's pretty obvious now that the Speaker of the House isn't the one that needs to call up the National Guard

I hope everyone who stayed home or voted third party in November is happy with their choice. This is what y'all chose. No one forced you to choose this. You forced this on everyone else.

Sen Bernie Sanders (I-VA) just now on CNN: "We have a President moving this country rapidly into authoritarianism. He's suing media who criticize him. He's going after law firms that have clients who were against him. He's suing universities who teach courses he doesn't like"

Let's be clear what is going on: After Elon correctly confirmed that the Big Ugly Bill would put a bigger hole in the deficit, Stephen Miller incited a panic he wants to use to pass the bill as a promise to impose martial law on Dem cities and states. www.emptywheel.net/2025/06/08/t...

ICE detained a US marshal because he "fit the general description of a subject." Basically, they racially profiled their own kind.

REMINDER: Stephen Miller was born and raised in Santa Monica, California, and numerous reports from journalists—and people who knew him when he was growing up there—indicate he had a deep-seated disdain of immigrants, particularly Hispanic people. California has always been a target for him.

Booker: "We have a president who did nothing as people stormed our Capitol, & then when those people who viciously beat police & led to some of their deaths - therefore cop killers - were convicted, he pardoned them. So for him to be talking about responsive law enforcement is hypocritical at best"

So, the NRA will support California residents to stock up on arms and potentially use them to protect their liberty and freedoms from tyranny, right? That's what we've heard from Republicans since forever when it comes to defending the 2nd Amendment and guns. Let's see...

All of these violent, lawless ICE officers terrorizing communities and hiding their faces weren't just hired this year. It's why dismantling ICE as an agency was so important and remains so. These people are unfit to be public servants if they hate the public.

Ironic how the NRA spent 70 years claiming the 2nd Amendment protects us from tyranny—and yet here we are. The message is clear: kneel to the orange demagogue and you’ll be pardoned. Dare to think outside that box, and it’s prison time. So much for liberty and justice for all.

Trump thanking the National Guard for a job well done before they are even deployed is raising questions about Biden's mental competence

Not sure if NBC has figured this out yet but there’s no fucking way the Olympics are being held here in 2028

Asked and answered.

Note to Democratic politicians: Stop saying "this isn't who we are" when clearly it *IS* "who" a significant portion of us are. Recommendation: "This isn't who we SHOULD be" or "We should be better than this."

I 2nd this 💯🎯

Bernie Sanders on the Trump-Musk feud: "The story of what happened last week is you are living increasingly in an oligarchic society. Musk said to Trump, 'Listen, I bought $270m to get you elected. I bought you the presidency.'"

seems to me the basic error these centrists are making is that they are playing on enemy turf, rather than trying to raise the salience of issues that favor them

Fact-check: true

This isn’t even remotely legal what he is doing.

BREAM: Is there an acknowledgement that there will be people, potentially millions of them, transitioned off healthcare programs? RICK SCOTT: The only way you're gonna get of the program is if you way you do not want to work.

There's actually an extremely large scholarly literature about this. With some regularity, dictators order their troops to shoot protestors, the troops are like "wtf no," and then the dictator falls. I'll dig ho and dump some cites below in a second

I… huh? What are the police firing back at

The hypocrisy… “Also, from now on, MASKS WILL NOT BE ALLOWED to be worn at protests. What do these people have to hide, and why???“ -Trump

I can watch LA news live through my Paramount app right now. They have a live shot of protesters and it’s very mellow even though it’s a smaller sized crowd. Reporter just talked to a guy asking what the tear gas was like and he said, “Tasted like fascism”. 😹😹 That ended the interview.

The administration overreaction to a far from dramatic protest in LA kind of confirms how much they held back on January 6th because Trump was pro hang Mike Pence.

“Firing back”

In America, Christianity for a large majority is just an identity. Not a religion. It’s performance without depth.

If you live in a GOP district in CA, start calling your Rep about how Trump's Big Ugly Bill aims to invade California, and they MUST vote against giving up CA's sovereignty bc Stephen Miller ordered the invasion of Home Depot.

The military isn’t being employed to carry out an immigration policy. The immigration policy, and especially the way the administration is choosing to carry it out, is an excuse to call out the military.

The Trump administration and loyalists will throw the word "insurrection" around so that the public will automatically think it applies to the ICE protests in LA. Trump is using an established Nazi propaganda technique to accuse his enemies of what he does. shero.substack.com/p/trump-sets...

Let’s look at the facts: DHS claimed there were “about 1,000 rioters,” but Reuters couldn’t independently verify that number. Meanwhile, flash-bangs used against peaceful protesters ignited one of the fires captured in widely shared photos.

I geniunely wonder what people think martial law looks like. It looks like troops in the streets exercising control over the population and suspending civil liberties with force. Why do people throw these words around like that is some imminent threat and not what's already happening?

tl;dr Buckley supported a segregationist newspaper. Unsaid by Parker: The entire American conservative movement has racist roots. A troubling chapter in William F. Buckley’s life www.washingtonpost.com/opinions/202...

We've had more than a decade of American law enforcement's aggressively, militarized responses to street protests regularly causing violence. This is a well documented, well discussed pattern. There is no excuse for any politician/journalist/civil society figure to not acknowledge that reality.

Result: Gina Ortiz Jones will be the next mayor of San Antonio. The Democrat, and former Biden admin official, just defeated Republican Rolando Pablos in the country’s seventh most populous city. (She’s going to replace a retiring Dem.)

I thought I would be safe if I positioned myself with all the cable news crews off to the side away from all of the protesters. But nope. I was wrong. The feds shot pepper balls at us, forcing us down Alameda Street with everyone else. @lataco.bsky.social

once again: millions of “criminal illegals” simply don’t exist, so they’re just snatching anyone they can to meet trump and miller’s arbitrary arrest quotas

I support the use of the National Guard to stamp out lawlessness so, yes, dispatch them immediately to the White House

Whenever law enforcement agents are given a quota of a specific number of people to arrest or detain, especially with the WH policy director screaming at their superiors to hit those target numbers, bad things are going to happen. Quotas always result in civil rights violations.

All we want is healthcare.

One apparent reason why GOP legislators are getting cold feet about proof of citizenship laws for voter registration: They’re worried about disenfranchising their own voters, advocates say. www.democracydocket.com/news-alerts/...

We’ve been warning about fascism for a very, very long time. It’s here. They are trying to deploy the military against their own citizens. Stop looking for heroes and do your part. It’s up to all of us.

The Trump administration’s spending cuts and restrictions on foreign students are triggering a brain drain — and American scientists are panicking. www.axios.com/2025/06/07/u...

Big point that is being missed: without the insurrection act, the activated Guard troops are now federal army and cannot Do law enforcement. Period

Every one of these covid-revisionism pieces consists of people lying to your face about events that you remember www.persuasion.community/p/frances-le...
