I think shock would do what it's supposed to do and it would just be a thing you observed and then that's that. I think the horror is in thinking about it when you aren't in shock. But I won't be volunteering to test my conjecture any time soon.

That is also a way of forming a position independent of evidence such that it is impervious to any form of rebuttal except perhaps ridicule and contempt. They revel in any reaction that can allow them to feel strong, so offer only the opposite.

Yeah. I feel the Russia thing really throws liberals for a loop because they treat them like the "rival team", and all the old propaganda rattles around in their head, like there really is a core ideological difference that underpins great power rivalries. Why not Putin if "we" loved Pinochet et al?

At this point, I'd like to see some meaningful shift towards strong union action that we've let the capitalists take off the table. A general strike in 2028 is way too late when the fascists are going full tilt the other way. If you don't have a union, make a union through wildcatting!
