The way Mateta targeted Joa before the corner was both hilarious and superbly effective. Rattled him.

I did my treadmill run this morning. First morning back after my holiday. Enjoyed it
Well done for getting out π

I think codification can also lead to more superficial knowledge. People can feel empowered by knowing labels without exploring the depth associated with each.

Nice to be out of there.
I miss some accounts and content but the net benefit of cutting out the noise and not being on that platform is far greater

Yes, me too. I've been expecting to see him go on loan and thought it may have happened sooner. Just interesting as their league finishes so much earlier. Perhaps only 5/6 league games left.

I'm in the classroom again far more regularly than I have been for years.
It's important that I remember I am not finished article and can always do more to shape my practice and support each individual student.

Yes, but the fault does not sit solely with him there. The board had time to formulate a plan for the start of the season

My goodness, the EBACC conversations. Curriculum offers and decisions based on 'what Ofsted will say', with EBACC entry of 45% while Outstanding schools around us had entry figures in the low teens.
The perils of not being good or better at the time.

Day 30
Gratitude
My final tweet really is this π
Life is not perfect and neither is our school. There are frustrations, challenges and we miss people, but I enjoy being both a pastoral leader and a classroom teacher again.
We've taken risks, but it's been worth it, so far π

Day 29
Service
Service/supporting charity is a large part of school life, we have postholders to oversee and coordinate this work and student led projects.
Many (not all) students come from a background of sig privilege. We push the importance of using that to benefit others

Day 28
Finding your tribe
If leaving loved ones behind, it is important to find meaningful connection in your new home.
As I've got older, I'm much more comfortable staying in, so I have had to energise my social life π One way has been by watch live β½ at the Thunderdome.

Day 27
Work/life separation
I've said it many times. Despite living on site, I feel more separate from work than ever. As we start a 3 wk holiday, I feel under no pressure to check mails or use days to 'catch up'.
SLT drive this part of our culture well and model it too. π

Day 26
Risk/Healthcareππ©Ή
I now live in a very risk averse society. Our medical centre in school is well resourced, well staffed and very well used.
Link to attendance - people stay at home when ill. There is not a culture of 'dragging yourself in'.

Day 25
Language π¨οΈ
A tough one for me. I qualified as an MFL teacher and expect myself to have worked harder on learning the language, but I've been too slow.
Lots to focus on, but living/working in a Brit School makes it easy to coast in this respect.
D- Must try harder πΉππ£οΈ

Day 24
Health
Working here feels healthier both physically and mentally. I am not in a constant state of vigilance and managing crises in the same way. Busy but manageable.
3 days from the end of term and whilst I'm ready for it, I don't need it.
There's a huge difference.

Day 23
Seeing your kids
Having moments in the day where you see your children around school is magic; playing at break, eating lunch or on their way to class.
Add to this the opps to see them in plays, assemblies and class expos and how going to them is encouraged.

Day 22
Helpers/Nannies/Cleaners
People have different roles, but having someone working with you/ your family is part of life for many.
Moving away, you can lose a support network and childcare is essential. Having extra help allows you to enjoy time doing other things too.

Day 21
'Is it tax free?' π°
No, it isn't. Some places are, but taxes vary, so do your research. Also:
Annual flights βοΈ
Free on-site accommodation or off-site accommodation allowance π
Annual bonus π€
Private medical insurance π
One of my faves... Lunch π π

Day 20
No Ofsted.
There are other accountability measures but nothing that consumes in the same way Ofsted can and does.
Trust me, it makes the job so much more enjoyable.

Day 19
Contracts π
Being a UK State educator for 20 yrs, I know how protected teachers can be. The new uncertainty of 2 yr contracts is a strange feeling.
For some it works and is part of the plan π, but if your plan is to stay, there's a 'what if?' that wasn't there before.

Day 18
Time difference
Seems appropriate as I sit watching a football match that started at 2.30am. 7hrs difference (drops to 6hrs when clocks change) does present issues with keeping in touch with loved ones, keeping up to speed with things in the UK and being a β½ fan.
