Democratic Leaders Stand Real Still In Hopes No One Notices Them

Your regular reminder that the US air & water pollution laws passed in the 60s & 70s -- and the elaborate federal bureaucracy created to administer them -- constitute one of the most successful gov't interventions in history. WILDLY successful. The envy of the world.

perhaps one day ppl will mourn those dead from cvd and pay respect to their loved ones, and listen to all with LC, instead of joking abt neglect and abandonment.

In light of everything happening, I wrote about how the KKK in the 1920s felt unstoppable, about the people that fought against them anyway, and about how fascism always fails. dansinker.com/posts/202…

Ed Yong is such a real one <3 www.nytimes.com/2025/02/22/m...

It’s incredible how we’ll wait 45 minutes in line for a cronut and, like, 0 seconds for someone who’s dropping off a person at the airport

Dear Dems. This is a reminder that Donald Trump rescinded the ethics rules preventing gifts to executive branch employees. Now would be a good time to propose legislation formalizing the prevention into a law Time to do things that make him react to you. apnews.com/article/trum...

coming this holiday season

Also if you feel strongly about Eric Adams, you should call your city councilmember to express that and ask for their position. You’d be surprised. Hochul’s stance is highly disappointing but it doesn’t come from nowhere. Press all your electeds. City elections are in 5 months. Ask candidates too.

It may not be cool or hip in some circles, but we legitimately do need a massive amount of people to run for office. Flood the school boards, councils, county seats, state legislatures, Congress, etc. Big changes at the top happen when the ground shifts at the bottom. And that can start now.

okay, it’s time for me to finally weigh in: it’s probably a bad sign that guys are just doing sieg heils in public again

Ok. If you charge for a streaming service, you do not get to run ads. These are two different revenue models and they conflict with user experiences. Pissing people off and burning brand goodwill. Thank you for coming to my TedTalk.

Congrats to Dan Aykroyd and Bill Hader for staying home! people.com/martin-short...

If there’s ever a Democratic president again it’s going to be fun to see the stories about the “enormous expansion of the federal government” if they’re somehow able to claw back a few percent of the federal workers who’ve been fired over the last couple weeks.

Personally *Leftists* on social media are definitely why I'm officially becoming a fascist. That will show them!!!!

On of the things I like about drawing maps for people's books and projects is that I learn all sorts of things. Like, for example...about flying rivers.

So. It has officially happened. I have been officially let go from my position at CDC. I wasn’t a probationary employee. I had stellar performance reviews every year. I’ll be ok. But please understand that many worked HARD to get into these positions and were doing great public health work.

men who dressed like this from 2008 - 2012 had preppy menswear blogs

i wish we could at least be destroyed by some bad ass evil motherfucker not this cringe ass loser this is so embarrasing

🚨 JOB ALERT: Research Director, Center for Science & Democracy at @ucsusa.bsky.social. The work of this role in this moment where science is under attack is so important right now!

There is a curse on me where no matter how I pronounce gyro the person at the restaurant with say it back the other way

Gang, at this point I’m too disillusioned to expect all of you to mask always (even though you should), but for the love of GOD, please at least mask at airports and on planes when you travel to events!!!

Hakeem Jeffries earnestly believing that this is a great time for him to go on a book tour is how you know not nearly enough of these guys are reading the vibes on bluesky

For every $1 the IRS spends auditing the top 1%, it can collect $13. For every $1 the IRS spends auditing the top 0.1%, it can collect $26. Laying off 7,000 IRS employees (during tax season) isn't about efficiency. It's about making it easier for the rich to evade taxes.

ECEXUTIVE ORDER

Call your Senators. Call your House Rep. Call your State AG. @5calls.org can help.

I cannot emphasize enough that the New York City subway is not scary. It’s one of my favorite parts of living here. I grew up in the suburbs having to drive on highways everywhere and that’s way scarier

I lost my job at the National Science Foundation yesterday, along with 167 of my colleagues, including some dear friends. This was the best job I've ever had, and I thought it would be my last. The PI community has been sympathetic and supportive, without exception. I will miss working for you.

The people running the federal government hate New York City and want to punish people who live here for (by and large) having views and living lives that they dislike. Any gussied-up justification is working backwards from that desired result

Note that the Congestion Zone in Manhattan excludes the highways circumnavigating Manhattan Island. Anyone "needing to get around the region" can go around the zone toll-free, with reduced traffic. Sec. Duffy is saying otherwise and that is a complete lie

"An 11-year-old girl in Texas took her own life after she was allegedly harassed by classmates who threatened to call the authorities and have her family deported."

This is a concentration camp. They are describing a concentration camp.

If I had a band or a label, I would do a punk cover of "No More Kings" from Schoolhouse Rock. And then I would gather a bunch of people to write a whole album of next-generation Schoolhouse Rock songs, with songs about Social Security and Medicaid and NOAA. I am not kidding in the least.

Take note of the messaging - this is both accurate and *deeply* unpopular. It's the kind of thing that forces GOP House members to quietly tell their constituents that they too are concerned about Musk. Make them own this. Make them squirm.

Here’s the playbook: raid public coffers, dismantle public services, use the breakdown of infrastructure they engineer to scapegoat and repress political enemies, and to further privatize what was, is, and should be public.

It's only January, and we already have a strong contender for word of the year.

If anybody out there has a copy of the 2002 CD “The Ticket,” by New York subway performer Ron Raffel, please contact me! I’ve been searching for this album since 2008 when I realized my disc was badly scratched/unplayable. It’s an obsession! I want to hear it again!

I beg you please not Andrew Cuomo. We do not need Andrew Cuomo as mayor either.

“Accidentally” — no - as with the nuclear safety people and everyone else they were deliberately fired with malice aforethought and the effort to control the gratuitous damage by trying to rehire them is a reminder that the ones who do need firing are the firers www.nbcnews.com/politics/dog...

DOGE recommended firing workers at: -FDA, which oversees Neuralink -FAA, which oversees SpaceX -USAID, which probed Starlink -CFPB, which oversees Tesla's financing arm and a potential payment platform on X. "Conflict of interest" is a severe understatement.

After that plane literally flipped upside down after smashing into the runway and 100% of people survived, I hope every person who ever said “what’s even the point of seatbelts on a plane” feels like a real doof.

10,000 King Soopers workers are currently on strike for better pay and working conditions. Instead of negotiating in good faith, parent company Kroger has been using scabs and prioritized $7.5B in stock buybacks. Don't tell me they can't afford to pay a living wage.

My Fav Lorde Poem: "A Litany for Survival": edushare.ing/2q when we are alone we are afraid love will never return and when we speak we are afraid our words will not be heard nor welcomed but when we are silent we are still afraid So it is better to speak remembering we were never meant to survive.
