Hardy (now US owned) was having rods made in S. Korea. I'm not sure if that was the entire range or not. Korea had a very good reputation for blanks a few years ago.

It is doubly confusing when so many fly gear manufacturers fully outsource to Asia anyway.

As a dad, I approve of this joke.

I'm guessing you'll turn sixteen before this gets implemented anyway.

This year I was gift a day's guided drift boat fishing with my son. Best day's fly fishing I've had for ages and it would have suited a beginner.

Tasmania also has an endemic flightless rail called the Tasmanian Nativehen - better, and more appropriately, known as the Turbo Chook because of its speed.

I grew up in Brisbane and that was my reaction too. In fact, their schtick is more Brisbane than Sydney IMO. I'd love to be wrong, but I suspect they'll do well.

Husbands, and men generally, only have one mood. Unless there has been a loss by his favoured sports ball team.

I quite like that every new discovery of ancient hominid remains "rewrites the human evolutionary story!" when, in reality, it mostly just adds a footnote.

Update. I took the rod to the local outfitters, Toms Outdoors in Tumut, and they are arranging to get me a replacement section from Orvis in the US. They are God's chosen people.

I am currently looking after three large dogs for the fourth time in two years. Their mission seems to be to move meal time as far forward as possible for when owners return. I am holding firm so far.

My fault entirely, of course.

A fitting successor to Chris "I'm a Fixer" Pyne as leader of the non-existent Liberal Moderates. They are now running out of patsies.

As a geek and a fisher, having so much data to hand may be a mixed blessing.

As a fly fisher and fly tier, I can not relate to this at all. Apart from having several boxes of flies that are too good to fish. And some feathers I am keeping for something really special.

Same. Considered a GoPro, but I already have too much gear to wear.

Our local tailrace river (the Tumut) is quite close BY, but it is running at full volume this week to provide agricultural water to the almond farms downstream. I did fish it from a drift boat a few weeks ago. A marvellous experience.

I look like this, apparently.

Reorienting to this far more sensible, pleasant, and ad-free space. I am still feeling awful about the November 5 outcome and its local reverberations, but working on personal strategies to make positive contributions over time. Some fishing on my favourite river will no doubt help.

Unless the methodology was known to be biased towards overestimating decline, the decision should be "endangered." Precautionary Principle 101.
