"If you are neutral in situations of injustice, you have chosen the side of the oppressor. If an elephant has its foot on the tail of a mouse and you say that you are neutral, the mouse will not appreciate your neutrality." Archbishop Desmond Tutu

Why do they do that weird thing with the mouth while saluting the fuehrer?

You are resisting fascism by repeating fascist lies? Interesting take

All you have done is persuade me that the music of Barry Gray would elevate anything it was attached to

"At least one defendant has died in a post pardon altercation with the police." We live in an auto satirical reality.

Canticle for Leibowitz is a terrific book from a time when nuclear armageddon seemed very likely. It's also one of the only science fiction books my Dad ever read, and definitely the only one he ever enthused about.

But somehow very appropriate for our times. Though not in the way Heinlein intended it perhaps

These are the only "engineers" who will acknowledge Elno's brilliance

The obvious answer to that is "Because the modern world Silicon Valley built is a hellscape of enshittification, privacy violation, and algorithms that lead people down conspiracy theory rabbit holes."

Well, yeah. I don't think they'll be retrofitting this change

Good point. All those are things that need doing. There, a rare case of two people arguing in good faith on social media and coming to at least partial agreement! Maybe there is hope for humanity after all

I think we probably need to do both. Knife crime is a rising trend, so it will continue to get worse without effective action
comment in response to post
Agreed, you can hurt people with lots of things. But after firearms, knives are one of the easiest ways to take a life, intentionally or accidentally. Perhaps the compromise position is to have pointy tips on small knives, but remove them from the big ones that do most damage
comment in response to post
Kitchen knives can have sharp blades. But not the pointy tip that makes it easy to stab someone. So you can still chop, slice, and carve. But you can't stab. It's a pretty good idea

I have so many questions. Neither of those scenarios looks good...

They almost certainly did distill data from either models, and given the piratical nature of the model builders when it comes to other people's content, zero fucks given by anyone outside a few silicon valley board rooms

GenZ have been completely failed by the UK. If they go for a University education they leave it saddled with eye watering debt. Most have no hope of owning a home, and are exploited by greedy private landlords. To placate sad old racists, Brexit denied them opportunities to live and work in Europe

Time reading Philip K Dick is never wasted. He predicted our world better than anyone, especially targeted advertising that follows you around

So... Marching to protest against a genocide = antisemitic. Making an actual Nazi salute in front of a TV audience of millions = fine, no problem here

Ill informed opinions are often unpopular. Birth rates in developed countries have been falling for years. The NHS is failing for many reasons, and wilful starvation of resources probably accounts for over half of them.

The clack of the letter striking the paper and the thunk of the carriage moving when you pressed a key on an electric typewriter. Hearing the end of line bell and pushing the carriage return lever on a manual typewriter was pretty good too

The Multi Academy Trusts are overdue for having their wings clipped. At the moment they take public money and then do what they like, with very little oversight.
