Not even five weeks since Trump took power. I really don't see how anyone can confidently declare the spectrum of where this might be going ends at some form of Orbán-style *competitive* authoritarianism rather than in more outrightly authoritarian forms of rule. Talked about this yesterday:

in general i would encourage all dem governors/mayors to investigate their current goon situation - if you have a court order saying one thing and the trump administration says a different thing, "who can quickly occupy the relevant building with their own armed guys" is gonna be determinative a lot

“Democratic leadership” is a contradiction in terms.

Do you want that walkout to have a crushing impact? Let them gather on the Capitol steps behind the former presidents of the United States and declare that they will fight the Trump coup.

Naturalized citizens know that emotion.

It will take three former presidents defiantly mobilizing millions and placing Congress under crushing political pressure.

The Congress will be placed under unprecedented pressure to reverse the abdication of its powers and put an end to the treasonous presidency of Donald Trump. There is very little time left. The leaders have to be the former presidents of the United States. They must do their duty by their country.

With the right leaders making the right moves *now*, *publicly*, and *defiantly*, the country will come to a standstill, Washington will be paralyzed by protestors, and millions in federal service will stop accepting illegal and unconstitutional orders.

It all boils down to two things: *leaders*, and *action*. Without the right leaders, all actions will fizzle out. With the right leaders, the entire country can become focused and mobilized and fight back instead of wallowing in dithering, debate, and despondency.

There is no need for a “blueprint” and there never was. There is only a need to look and listen outside American borders. Literally millions of people in half a dozen countries have direct experience of coups. Some have prevailed — recently. Others not — but they have learned.

You mean within possible reach of Ukrainian covert ops?

If the U.S. had binding federal referendums, Trump could be fooled into calling one on initiating a process to repeal the 22nd Amendment. And be subsequently hoisted by his own petard.

‘President Krasnov’ has such a nice ring to it, incidentally.

Ukraine's modernized industrial base can become a vital component of the European economy, strengthening economic ties.

This will greatly complicate Russia's plans for any possible further aggression against Baltic countries or Poland, for example, and it will decrease pressure in the east of Europe. A stable Ukraine will contribute to economic revival in the region.

Those with major followings should all be pushing for strong political moves designed to stall and resist an unfolding coup d’État. Moves such as collectively coaxing or shaming former presidents into unifying the resistance to the actions of a traitorous madman in the White House.
