There's a running theory that the Gulf of America crap was just to get around regulations protecting the Gulf's ecosystem from oil companies, because all those regulations specifically state "The Gulf of Mexico." It's possible that this dumb rename is for the same.

I think the special thing was mainly just in how he evolves: collect 1000 gold pieces with Gimmighoul

I don't get it, but I'm down for an explanation (I know about xkcd, so you can skip that part)

More on the topic, I've seen posts on social media of motels renaming themselves to something like, "Tesla Medbed Center" to trick terminally sick people out of hundreds to thousands of dollars to visit them.
comment in response to

Some conspiracy theorists think been convinced that there are "medbeds" that can cure all diseases, which the "elite" currently use, and Musk or Trump is gonna make them free for everyone, so they're already convinced that they're already helping the sick. There's no reasoning with these people.

So you'd argue things like racing games shouldn't be live service?
And you also think paid shooter games are okay to be live service??

That's the worst name you could've given it. Obra Dinn isn't even an adventure game.

Maybe call them "knowledge-based exploration games?"

Only minor spoiler I'll give: when it starts raining, you don't actually have to return to the boat. You can continue for as long as you need.
Minor motion sickness warning: plenty of first-person camera movement in a confined space

Came out in 2018. Created by Lucas Pope, the same solo developer as "Papers, Please"
8 hrs to beat
10 hrs to 100%
Although, unlike Outer Wilds, progression is unlocked by seeing more of the story.

I fully believe that's what Elon was thinking, but I don't know if I'd say older folks "tend" to think that. Like, the film industry's had video editors for decades! I'd say some people like Elon are just dumb.

Why the heck do companies think that, just because a comic's become a meme format, they can just make shitty, meme-based ads for commercial use without paying the artist?

Interested in checking it out, but it looks like Itch is down? Is there some other game jam nearing submission time or something?

Even the ones that "connected to a server" didn't actually connect to a server. For a lot of them, you could disconnect mid-game and it'd still work.

"Lobbies will be 1 human and the rest AI"
That's already how most of those .io games worked. Lots of them cheated by pretending to be an online game and the players would simply be playing in a server full of bots.

Really? You rarely thought about flat tires as a kid? Even when that's probably one of the car problems most commonly known among kids, just after running out of gas?

I like Octopath Traveler II. I haven't played the first one, but I heard it's better and you don't really need to play the first one at all.
Fire Emblem is also technically turn-based.

I'm pretty sure that's intentional. It's a reference to a "Don't Dead Open Inside" situation.

The only other POSSIBLE explanation would be if there was an inside joke that were not aware of. Maybe even just a joke where everyone saw all the comments saying "great song" and just contributed to it as a bit. But the lack of ANY comments pointing this out the pattern implies the worst.....

Not denying the value in watching people play a game before trying it yourself. Plenty of games I have are like that.
I'm not rejecting watching Let's Plays whatsoever.

It can make a difference to people who MAKE games.
Like, Sea of Thieves was made with the express purpose of people mainly watching the game through streaming.

I legitimately think that this is question has more depth than it first appears, and part of it is defining what it really means to be a fan of a game.
People are referencing sports, but I'd argue that there's a difference between enjoying playing basketball vs enjoying watching the NBA.
comment in response to

But are they an actual fan of the game, or just a fan of watching & talking about it?
Is there a (meaningful) difference?
Like, if there's a game that sucks and is unfun to play, but has a cool story and is funny to watch other people play, are they a fan of the game, or just the things around it?

It essentially forces players to attack them, much like a how enemy AI gets forced to attack a specific party member.

Debatable. It's too festive and in the season spirit. It'd feel off once the into music starts playing.
