50 years ago I cut school, hitchhiked to Mount Kisco and caught the train down to the city with my friend Mireille to see Holy Grail's US premiere — a matinee. Terry Jones and Michael Palin were there and gave us each a coconut. A beautiful sunny day, the theater was maybe a third full. Ah, youth!

#AusVotes25 Prepolls are open & neither Labor nor Liberals can be arsed to have any meaningful environment policies Utter contempt for the 96% of Australians who believe more action is needed to look after the environment (👀 biodiversitycouncil.org.au/resources/20...)

The ports are *already* empty, just in time inventory means that void hits the shelves just as just in time as the products that were supposed to be there The whole US economy is Wile Coyote, spinning his legs in thin air moments before gravity kicks in.

It’s another Auspol myth that John Howard ever stood against One Nation and Hanson for moral reasons www.thenewdaily.com.au/news/politic...

All the more reason why it is important for Labor to have a caucus that reflects the cultural diversity of its voting base We’ll see hopefully see a bunch of new culturally diverse ALP MPs get elected on May 3 #auspol #ausvotes

i ask you to judge me by the enemies i have made and the unhinged things they say about me on sky news. (the irony that the CEO of an astroturf misinformation vehicle would say these words on rupert murdoch’s network is not lost on me.)

Latest Trump Logorrhea: "I took the cognitive test and I aced it 100% and I bet you guys couldn't get 100% on that exam." I am contractually obligated to post from the Vintage Sarah Cooper Vault every time this fuckhead runs off at the mouth with this crap. #TwoTermsNotMore #StopThisLunacy

‘If the book we are reading doesn’t wake us up with a blow on the head, what are we reading it for?’

Plenty of politicians on both sides of the aisle feel threatened by rising class consciousness.

Well done Nine papers, looking forward to your outrage at what happened this morning at the dawn service.

In the Beano this week Bananaman’s enemy General Blight becomes the head of DOPE - the Department of Pure Evil.

Peter Dutton made a new election ad, and it’s surprisingly honest and informative. #auspol

Just finished this 5m long drystone seating area on the banks of the loch. It will hold a single piece of oak across the three protruding stones to form a bench. Built by hand, no mortar, just time, attention, and stone. All materials sourced locally. #Scotland #Nature #Environment #Sustainable

In 2020, Brazil launched Pix, a public digital payment system during Covid. It is now dominant, undercutting credit & debit card providers, reducing transaction costs, enhancing productivity & increasing financial competition. Don't tell me the state can't innovate. www.economist.com/the-americas...

I do mourn Pope Francis. Though I’m no longer a practicing Catholic, my remaining tether was to the kind of faith he modeled, especially in his care for migrants, for refugees, for social justice, and against war and genocide. Hope @zeets.bsky.social doesn’t mind my sharing this.

Damn. We need milk.

“Human beings were designed to walk and not just a stroll on a sunny day in a beautiful landscape. When we walk, we produce biochemicals which are so powerfully life-affirming that scientists have described them as ‘hope molecules’”. www.theguardian.com/lifeandstyle...

I doubt that I would have given this missive from Pope Francis my attention were it not for a steer from @bcdreyer.social, but I really can’t recommend it enough. www.vatican.va/content/fran...

No news of Francis today, either on the wireless or in the paper.

He'll be promising larger green waste bins for the East Ward and no roundabout on Beach Avenue by Thursday.

Traditional Easter greetings from Takayna

Last night was the 250th anniversary of Paul Revere's midnight ride to warn the Minutemen of approaching British troops. I want to take a moment to share an excerpt from the Declaration of Independence's grievances against King George III. Remind you of anyone?

People need to be hearing about this shit every single day. Zoom in on literally anything here.

I had been doubtful that we were going to have a "this is the crisis moment" with Trump, as opposed to "everything about this is a destructive catastrophe." But the Abrego Garcia case is the crisis moment. 1/

1/4. On the White House’s theory, if they abduct you, get you on a helicopter, get to international waters, shoot you in the head, and drop your corpse into the ocean, that is legal, because it is the conduct of foreign affairs.

You’d think that at some point a party of government might try identifying a problem with our society and working out a way of actually reducing that problem then explain it clearly. That would be a fine thing.

Dutton's policy is to give people who can already afford to enter the housing market a tax payer subsidy for five years on the repayments they can already afford to make. It does not increase supply, help lower income people get a deposit, or enter the market. It's a tax break for the wealthy.

A reminder that neither the LNP's nor the ALP's policies will touch the main problem

How much do you think it costs to make a pair of Nike shoes in Asia? Before you open this thread, take a guess. Settle on a number and then compare it to what you'll learn in this thread. 🧵

Three years in Opposition, and Dutton’s team haven’t a single coherent major policy.
