The question is how much self harm are white people willing to tolerate in order to harm those they hate and fear. That’s the only guardrail left — figuring out where the moral bottom is for the white majority who support this. How much are they willing to harm themselves?

Law is no longer any sort of a guardrail. A hate movement controls all three branches of our govt and the head of that movement has criminal immunity. They can ignore the law, rewrite it, or simply violate it. The only guardrail left is the moral compass of the white majority who voted for this.

Yes, blame billionaires. But their tactics wouldn’t have worked but for the moral bankruptcy of a majority of white people. Billionaires knew that white people would vote to destroy the Republic for fear of losing their unearned privileges. And they manipulated that bigotry to gain power.
