Really proud to be part of this author team on centering environmental justice in the National Climate Assessments. As one of the NCA 6 authors, it's a little bittersweet to have this out given the uncertain state of the NCA but regardless of how hard the regime tries, they can't erase the truth.

University of Washington environmental professor Phillip Levin shows us how to fight back against Trump’s anti-science, anti-environment purge - DIY science! That’s the spirit of Galileo and Copernicus alive in Washington State. Go Huskies! Or as we say, “Go Dawgs!”

This Earth Day, no photo could hold what I wanted to say. So I wrote about the National Nature Assessment: a project canceled, a team revived, a future still being written. Because we are—still—united by nature. 🍃 weareunitedbynature.org

They canceled the National Nature Assessment. We kept going. The science didn’t stop. Neither did our hope, or our resolve. The work is still happening—independent, evolving, and grounded in purpose. Because weareunitedbynature.org 🔗 www.nytimes.com/2025/04/22/o...

The Trump admin plans to gut climate research at NOAA & NASA, following #Project2025 agenda. Proposed cuts include NOAA’s Oceanic and Atmospheric Research Division, all 16 cooperative institutes, 10 labs, 6 climate centers, NASA’s Goddard Space Institute budget, and $70M in grants—plus mass firings.

Gutting NOAA doesn’t just hurt science—it hurts all of us. From weather forecasts to safe, sustainable seafood to coastal resilience, we rely on NOAA every day. Congress must act to protect NOAA. Read more from @UCSUSA: blog.ucs.org/rachel-cleet...

“What difference does it make if a biotech company promotes misunderstanding about the practical and implications of their technology,” you ask, having apparently not noticed how the Trump administration is using that misunderstanding to weaken actual endangered species conservation policy.

Dismantling the US Global Change Research Program is, alas, no surprise. USGCRP and the National Climate Assessment have long been on the radar for the Trumpists. But they don’t want to eliminate it. They want to use it for their own ends. [1/11] www.politico.com/news/2025/04...

ICF has supported the National Climate Assessment and the IPCC for nearly two decades with professionalism & integrity. Yesterday, ICF's contract to support NCA was cancelled. All federal staff details for OSTP + USGCRP were already returned to their agencies. There's no one left to work on NCA.

Very excited to see the release of the 2nd Status of Tribes and Climate Change (STACC) Report! Congratulations to ITEP and all the authors, artists, and contributors for this massive undertaking and critical work! www.nau.edu/staccreport

USGCRP brings together the power of 15 fed agencies to understand & respond to global change—turning science into action The people are brilliant, tireless, mission-driven. The value? Transformative USGCRP has shaped policy, research, & lives Gut wrenching blow. www.politico.com/news/2025/04...

The rationale for this cancellation is climate denial. There is no dressing it up, there is no tiptoeing around it. Yet climate change doesn’t care if we believe it. It will destroy our homes, multiply insurance rates, wreak economic havoc and more — regardless of our opinions or voting record.

This is cool. The Guardian recreated a searchable climate future risk tool (wildfire, extreme heat, drought, hurricane, and coastal flood) for the US that was developed by FEMA but deleted by the Trump administration’s ‘climate’ purge.

I was a commercial fisherman in a past life and American fisheries *exist* because of regulation. Fishermen know that without regulation we don't have fish and we don't have fisheries. It's not just a nice thing - it's existential.

Last week, the scientific community stepped up in big ways. Here are some thoughts on being brave and getting loud in this moment, along with my Friday MSNBC segment on the administration's assault on science and #standupforscience2025 rallies. blog.ucs.org/gretchen-gol...

Today, EPA's Lee Zeldin announced rollbacks on key environmental regulations, including pollution limits for coal plants, climate rules & EV standards. He called it a “consequential" day of deregulation, but for those who care about clean air & water, it's one of the most destructive in US history.

"The most disastrous day in EPA history". We are sorely missing the wisdom of EPAs first administrator Bill Ruckelshaus --The E.P.A. has “no obligation to promote agriculture or commerce; only the critical obligation to protect and enhance the environment” www.nytimes.com/2025/03/12/c...

I wake each day motivated to move science into action—to pull it from quiet journal pages & set it loose in the world. But science is more than utility. It’s part of being human. This one is a bummer. The Interior Department had only recently established a formal advisory committee on scientific integrity to ensure external experts were informing its scientific work.

Thank you, @symonedsanders.bsky.social, for talking with me and @ucsusa.bsky.social on yesterday's @standupforscience.bsky.social rallies and highlighting how dangerous the Trump administration's assault on U.S. science is for our health and safety. The science community will not be silent.
