TBF, the war on terror had a few skirmishes with democracy and left it battered and weak.

I think about this wrt Covid. If hrc had been president, a lot fewer people would have died, but there would still have been a lot of dead people and we would not have realized how bad it could get.

Either the stroke messed with his brain, he’s scared trump is gonna deport he’s wife, or he’s been bought.
He was far from perfect before, but he said all the progressive stuff. I don’t get his desire to kill Palestinians and now Iranians.

This is an unelected oil executive now calling the shots for America’s public lands. No Senate vote. No accountability. Just a signature and the quiet handoff of power to Musk’s inner circle. This is what authoritarianism looks like, buried in bureaucracy.

Do they realize that Tesla’s self driving mode probably wouldn’t exist if CMU graduate students hadn’t been driving around Pittsburgh in a self driving van in the 1980’s??

Federally funded R&D (not all of which is spent at universities) as a fraction of GDP is as low as it's been since we started tracking.
Which is a different way of looking at it than "line go up." 4/x ncses.nsf.gov/pubs/nsf2332...

Recognizing that we are on the road is not despair, it is facts.
Treating it lightly makes it harder to stop.
We are never going back to what we had; we can whistle our way to autocracy or we can fight for something better.
But pretending everything will be fine is sticking your head in the sand.

Do we have a judicial system?
It remains to be seen.
The current administration is defying court orders. Will there be any consequences?
We may not have arrived, but we are a ways down the road towards autocracy.

If he is such a bad person, it should be easy to convince a judge that he should be deported.

Black churches called for a 40 day boycott during Lent. That ends tomorrow, but I’m not going back even though Target is the closest store to my house. 🤷♀️

I’m 61. When I was a kid, autism meant you were banging your head against the wall as self stimulating behavior.
At least two of my five siblings are on the spectrum, but were never diagnosed as kids. They were just considered a little odd.

There are people with far less privilege and power than Sen Murkowski who have stood up to Trump. If any lawmaker is too afraid to use their voice, they should step aside and give their seat to someone who isn’t.
