Update: DHS — whose officers conducted this detention — did not answer questions. It instead directed us to the White House.

Sen. Bernie Sanders highlighted a new analysis showing that the wealthiest 1% has extracted $79 trillion from the bottom 90% of Americans since 1975. In 2023 alone, $3.9 trillion was redirected upward—enough to provide every U.S. worker with a $32,000 raise.

It’s always interesting to see which movies do well at the Oscars. I liked ANORA a lot! Looking back at 2022 and 2023, I’d say I liked it about as much as TAR and MAY DECEMBER. I gave all three films 4 1/2 stars. Neither of the other two won a single Academy award!

Aside from the obvious direct harm, what's so irritating is that a handful of spoiled ignorant assholes are breaking things that we all built together. They weren't content to own almost everything, they had to wreck what little they didn't own. It's vandalism on a mass scale and has to be punished

Trudeau: "I want to speak first directly to the American people. We don't want this. We want to work with you as a friend and ally. We don't want to see you hurt either. But your government has chosen to do this to you. As of this morning, markets are down and inflation is set to rise dramatically."

I’m blocking anybody who posts or reposts a Gen AI image It’s not progressive to use technology that exists because of theft, makes billionaires even richer & sucks up resources and announces to artists that you hate them and want them to starve

This whole country wants bad things for others more than they want good things for themselves.

Sen. Patty Murray (D-WA): “A program is not waste just because it doesn’t help the richest man in the world. It is not fraud just because he doesn’t like it."

“The Trump administration understands that it does not have absolute power and that it must rely on creating a false illusion of power to create a chilling effect to get everyday people to respond to fear, comply in advance, and censor their own free speech.” www.publicnotice.co/p/aoc-homan-...

for the love of God. fucking honestly. “controversial salute.” it’s a nazi stiff arm salute. literally everybody knows this. “controversial” is a chickenshit word generally (what purpose does its use serve? hint: an editorial, not journalistic one) but when we’re talking about public nazi shit gah

gravedigger of american democracy. a more malign influence than john c calhoun.

People who decide to do this—during a time that open fascist hate is normalized and empowered and all opposition is suppressed, framing the real problem as attaining a base level of awareness of others and taking basic steps to include those others in their language—know exactly what they are doing.

If you wanted to cut waste, fraud, and abuse, you would empower the inspectors general. If you wanted more waste, fraud, and abuse, you would fire them.

The flying public needs answers. How many FAA personnel were just fired? What positions? And why?

This is why you fight these cowards. The moment you stand up to them, they crumble. Homan has nothing. The Fourth Amendment is clear and I am well within my duties to educate people of their rights. He can threaten me with jail and call names all he wants. He’s got nothing else.

Maybe I wasn’t clear about this. I wanted more egg and no plane crash, not many plane crash and no egg.

new presidential frontrunner just dropped

Massive, meaningful changes in governance done as a result of a ctrl-f for the word "transition." No one will ever believe how stupid this shit was.

the single most un-american and anti-constitutional statement ever uttered by an american president

It is perfectly legal to know your rights and to educate others about them, too. EVERYONE in the United States, citizen or not, has rights. I will not allow this administration to intimidate us from helping you know about them. Here’s our shareable guide ⬇️: (pt. 1/2)

Whether it's Hillary Clinton sharing risotto tips on a private email server or Elon Musk giving full access to all government information to a nineteen-year old named Big Balls with ties to a child pornography collective known for its extortion techniques, both sides have played loose with security.

How much does USAID spend on shelter, medicine, food and more each year? $38 billion. How much has Elon Musk’s net worth grown since the election? $154 billion.

This is why they're attacking science and education: if you can only win with disinformation, data become a threat.

This profile has been scrubbed from the site. Rose Ferreira grew up without reliable electricity, immigrated to NY, then survived homelessness and cancer on her way to NASA. She was so moved by images from the Webb telescope she wept. This is what’s at stake web.archive.org/web/20231206...

It’s just bleak that there’s a considerable amount of people who are like “thank goodness the worlds richest human being is stopping the tyranny of the consumer financial protection bureau and that guy who collects atmospheric data”

When you volunteer at summer camp make friends with the weird little kid who has trouble fitting in.

Idgaf I’m still fighting for guaranteed healthcare. Aspiration is the answer. Not just “we’re not the bad guys.” We need something more meaningful than that. I want a future worth fighting for. They have no vision. We do. Lean into our strengths and knock them out. 👊🏽

Democrats are like the corpse chained to the door we need to open to get out of a burning building. I’d love to just get out of the building but unfortunately we’re going to have to deal with this corpse that’s acting as nothing but an obstacle to desperately needed action.

I honestly believe our most powerful position in a toxic time that feeds on cynicism, apathy,& despair is to genuinely care and act for a better world. Cynicism is our enemy. We should check it, incl. on the left. It’s not intellectually superior. It’s the virus they’re trying to infect us with. NO

Yes, this administration is dangerous and cruel, but they are also shockingly dim and incompetent. Opportunities are everywhere. Make everything as hard as possible. Resist every demand. Refuse entry without a warrant. Don’t take the buyout. Their problem solving skills are 📉

“Tyranny is eroded by a sea of small acts” ❤️

Do you know why a president would do all the most evil and heinous shit via Executive Order? Because his party can't easily make it law. And if they can't make it law, they can't make it last. Don't let anyone make you feel like this is The End. Do not let them demoralize you. Live to see them die.

@ocasio-cortez.house.gov

America doesn't have a throne. A third of Americans and half of Democrats aren't religious. And "Jesus take the wheel" isn't a strategy to fight White Christian Nationalism. We deserve better than this divisive and out of touch rhetoric from Congressional leadership.

Four examples of Democratic messaging since yesterday. I know which one I'm supporting. And voting for.

It is actually REALLY OFFENSIVE TO AUTISTIC PEOPLE that you excuse every bad behavior with "the poor man is autistic and doesn't know what he's doing." REALLY offensive. And it's NOT CALLED ASPERGERS ANYMORE.

Need to watch

THE 25 BEST FILMS OF 2024 A video countdown vimeo.com/1046284152

I used to think that when global warming truly began to bite, deniers would face reality & we could act. Now I think it's more likely it will lead to a kind of fascism that will respond to global warming by, like, executing everyone who says global warming is real.

You know one thing that’s really cool about movies? I watch a lot of them. Like, enough that I sometimes feel embarrassed talking about it around casual acquaintances. But even so I’ve only seen like 3-4 on this list! There are just so many GOOD movies out there to watch!

All 27 first-time reads from 2024, ranked:

I’m about one-third finished with “East of Eden” and I think this is probably one of the best books I’ve ever read. I typically try not to judge books until I’m through with them, but this is just SO epic in scope and beautifully-written with fascinating characters.
