What is common knowledge in your field, but shocks outsiders? Water is such a weird substance. Just absolutely bizarre. It's used as a standard or reference point for so much because it's so ubiquitous, but it's very different than pretty much every other liquid and every molecule of similar size.

We should have national rules: Minor urban roads (most residential roads) should be 20mph and pedestrians should have priority (effectively the whole road is a zebra crossing). Major urban roads should be 30mph and have marked crossings. Roads segregated from pedestrians can be 40mph or 50mph.
