Continue to be in love with our little new neighborhood bakery. Today I asked about an unlabeled wonky round loaf sitting at the end of the counter. "Oh that's the leftover ends from the cinnamon roll dough that we combined into... something?" They made up a price for it, and my god it is divine.

WTF?! I mean it is just a TV show, but what the actual fuck?! God forbid we have entertainment that isn't violent or demoralizing.

Demoralization through available fashion has been going on for decades, but -and you DO NOT have to give them credit- the og Fascists dressed so much better than this. This dress is "feudalism, but so impoverished you had to boil and eat your chemise to fend off starvation."

Everyone's got that one friend who's humors are unbalanced

So glad to have come of age before reality TV. My brain is broken, but at least not in a way that allows me to derive pleasure from this spectacle. One does need to retain a modicum of dignity.

From now on, anyone taking part in the ASEEES @aseees.bsky.social conference is subject to criminal punishment in Russia. As I understand it, since participants pay a membership fee, they could face up to 5 years in prison for “funding an undesirable organization” (Article 284.1 of the Penal Code).

I also find it infantile this predilection for idealizing/stanning someone/something but the minute they do not live up to your impossible standards they're The Worst and you need everyone to know it. Grow up. Practice sitting with discomfort and disappointment and frustration. Breathe.

My personal opinion is things are really bad right now and we dishonor the gravity of that and overwhelm and confuse people who genuinely care when we indulge in hyperbole and rumor mongering. A bluesky post or "some people are saying" is not a fact.

The Museum of Costume and Fashion has reopened at the Palazzo Pitti after a four year renovation. It is always a joy to recognise reinvestment in dress and textiles, here a spectacular #1910s Doucet housecoat from their collection @uffizigalleries.bsky.social #FashionHistory 🗃️🪡

Reading about the wild 20th century history of the Autonomous Province of Bolzano South Tyrol and also about the curious Ladin language.

If you liked Murder By The Lake, I recommend Pale Mountains, a dark but dorky murder mystery/police procedural set in the Dolomites.

Forsaken by God (missed the rainbow, still dealing with wildfire haze so thick you can barely see the moon, stricken with weather-induced arthritis.)

This woman's life story is incredible. Immigrant. Doctor. Translator. Suffragette. Swimwear revolutionary. Someone should make a movie! (Also her name bears an uncanny resemblance to my mother's.)

For #WeddingWednesday, here is a dress worn by Flora Diamond when she married Philip Jacobs in June 1923 in Bayswater Synagogue in London. It was designed by Aida Woolf, a teacher turned dressmaker. She was also married in a synagogue, so was also most likely Jewish. #VandAMuseum #Fashionhistory

Not joking when I tell you I still use the direction of the sun as a navigational tool. I think besides maps, signs, and asking strangers, people had a stronger intuitive sense of where they were and less fear of getting lost than we do now. Like animals who find their way home over 100s of miles.

Women are also programmed to employ extreme flattery in professional communications. Not shocking that secretarial robots whose jobs are looking stuff up for you, composing your emails, and organizing your life are doing the kind of emotional labor that traditionally accompanies such work.

either these immigration tactical squads have ammo in those rifles or they don't, and at some point either answer is going to be a big problem

I simply cannot believe there are not full-fledged investigations by journalists, members of Congress, ye olde armchair muckrakers, academics, et al. as who these unidentified and unidentifiable heavily armed people in tactical gear and face masks terrorizing the general public ARE.
