The literal wealthiest man in the world donating hundreds of millions of dollars to a presidential campaign and getting rewarded with a government post where he can award his companies with contracts is the most cartoonish possible rendering of what people warned about after Citizens United.

just a delight, from the nuanced (like his turning) to the obvious (that cannon of a shot).

makes more sense for villa to sell watkins, doesn’t it? not only due to age but chicago fire’s big sell on clause.

nearly wrote a piece for them once! pitched it to george, who liked the idea, but didn’t want to give me many words, so i took it to THE BLIZZARD. wish i did more writing like that!

never understood why we should listen to those dudes other than they spoke with accents. plenty of smarter soccer analysts (in english, spanish, and likely other languages) out there in the US.

i don’t think they’re especially helpful, especially in the early rounds. work-wise, well, i don’t know—it doesn’t really create work for the candidates (a click on interfolio) and recommenders should eventually write letters, no?

completely agree. we asked for cover letter, cv, and three recs initially. (i would have held off on the recs until later). before campus visits, we requested two writing samples and a sample syllabus. what gets me the most is the idiosyncratic, bespoke request.

but i feel like there should be an academic blacklist for those who chronically don’t respond to emails they should respond to (if they were professional).
