Check out the latest data update to our Data Explorer! 🚀 The Data Explorer (🔗 climateactiontracker.org/cat-data-exp...) brings together data from our country analyses, country ratings & 1.5°C compatible benchmarks to help policymakers, researchers, & citizens better understand countries’ progress.

"NASA, NOAA, USGS, and other agencies are in the process of eliminating or significantly reducing their scientific advisory committees." ⚒️🧪 ww2.aip.org/fyi/agencies...

Welcome to the Enemies List! I have an oped in the Austin-American Statesman today: www.statesman.com/story/opinio...

A remarkable view of Central U.S. storm. A "bomb cyclone" (rapidly strengthening low pressure system) is generating widespread extreme winds (gusts to 70-80+ mph), widespread dust storms, dozens of fast-spreading wildfires, & (soon) a major tornado outbreak. #OKwx #TXwx

You want to know about this NASA Sea Level Projection Tool, which allows you to visualize and download the sea level projection data from the IPCC 6th Assessment Report (AR6).

Obviously complaints about free speech from the right meant their speech. They never cared about the principle.

NEW: NOAA cuts jeopardize some hurricane hunter flights, as crews are down to minimum staffing levels for 24/7 operations. www.axios.com/2025/03/06/n...

At least four people were killed and hundreds of thousands were left without water or electricity as Cyclone Garance flooded parts of the island of Réunion, a French territory in the Indian Ocean, late last week, reports say. news.mongabay.com/short-articl...

NEW SCOOP: Some staffers at Elon Musk’s so-called Department of Government Efficiency are drawing robust taxpayer-funded salaries from the federal agencies they are slashing and burning, WIRED has learned. ⬇️ Here's how much they're making:

This is five months after some of the heaviest and most intense rainfalls on record devastated the mountains of western North Carolina. #whiplash

New research indicates Elkhorn coral, which are critical to coastal ecosystems, have a higher probability of survival when outplanted in shallow, low-nutrient waters and high velocity currents. Learn more: www.climate.gov/news-feature...

Here is a sign-on letter for individual scientists and other experts to speak out and protect NOAA. I signed it and I encourage you to sign it as well. secure.ucsusa.org/a/2025-prote... 🌎🧪🦑🐠

NEW: @noaa.gov offices have been asked to search their grants for climate-related keywords, among other executive order-related terms. This could put climate grant-funding in the crosshairs if/once the judicial order holding the funding freeze back is lifted. www.axios.com/2025/02/09/n...

“Why do I need NOAA? I’ve got a weather app.” Is equivalent to asking “Why do I need farms? I can go to the supermarket.” www.noaa.gov/about-our-ag...

THIS IS WHY WE FUND NOAA YOU FOOLS.

I’ve spent the majority of the day downloading datasets from NOAA’s paleoclimate repository. I’ve more or less downloaded the entirety of the ITRDB. #HandsOffMyProxies

I just spoke with an attorney who works with the NOAA, and there is a valid path to shut down what's happening. The agencies are compromised, the IGs are fired, etc. We need a state AG (she said NY would be best) to file a lawsuit seeking an injunction using state and federal cybersecurity laws.

I cannot emphasize enough that if they dismantle federal hazard agencies, warning systems, and emergency management disaster death tolls will increase. We can very easily lose the ground we have spent decades gaining.

The major climate groups monitoring global temperature released their estimates for 2024. The anomalies range from +1.46 to +1.62°C, likely the first post-industrial year with Earth +1.5°C above pre-industrial conditions. The 30-year climate average is still ~1.2°C but obviously increasing 🧪 +...

Now is a time we need to support each other in academia across disciplines, across universities: Those in fields not under attack, need to help those who are under attack Senior faculty need to support junior faculty Privileged faculty need to support marginalized faculty #academicsky

The Internet Archive has to date downloaded 500 terabytes of US government websites, which it crawls at the end of every presidential term. The whole archive is fully searchable. This effort's housed by a donation-funded nonprofit, not a branch of the US government. blog.archive.org/2024/05/08/e...

One impact of the NSF freeze: They fund the small nonprofit, EarthScope, that manages seismic and GPS stations used worldwide to detect and warn of earthquakes and navigate autonomous vehicles. EarthScope can maybe make payroll this week. A prolonged freeze could see stations fail.

That’ll fix it

WHERE IS THE OPPOSITION PARTY

This should be 25th amendment level conduct. The president ordered water to be released from a random dam in California nowhere near the wildfires and then claimed it would help. That’s literally Mad King behavior.

NEW: Elon Musk's friends have infiltrated the GSA and they're looking for ways to use White House credentials to access agency tech, potentially allowing them to remote into laptops, read emails, and more, sources say. w/ @zoeschiffer.bsky.social www.wired.com/story/elon-m...

Federal health agencies remove data from websites : Shots - Health News www.npr.org/sections/sho... We need to place a greater emphasis on downloading and archiving #climate data from US organizations. I know there are efforts to do this, but it doesn’t hurt to get more people involved.

When I say that eliminating FEMA could threaten our ~National~ Security this is a good scenario to think of... In FEMA’s best case scenarios tens of thousands die, without federal coordination… idk, man. The governors are not managing Cascadia. Please be serious.

Heads up for the Weather Community! You can now find NOAA (@noaa.gov), NOAA Climate (@climate.noaa.gov) & NWS HQ (@nws.noaa.gov; still being set up) on Bluesky!

As journalists we have to walk a fine line, and sensitive stories often need to pass internal legal reviews before publication. I like how Wired handled this — the headline doesn’t mince words and actually shows you how Musk’s salute is being received by Nazis www.wired.com/story/neo-na...
