Elon buying Twitter was clearly an in-kind donation to the Trump campaign, and it makes the 2024 election more than twice as expensive (as a share of GDP) as the previous record 128 years ago prospect.org/power/2024-1...

There you have it. Texas is the first state to officially offer up their state for the concentration camps

[Pinned post from Twitter 26 July, 2019] 💭 I have a theory. I'd like you to read it and think about where we are, AND how we got here, and then consider what it will take to make lasting and meaningful change.

BREAKING: Pennsylvania's U.S. Senate race will officially go to a recount. GOP candidate David McCormick is leading incumbent Democratic Sen. Bob Casey by less than 0.5% in the vote total, triggering an automatic recount under state law.

From today's FT story on advertisers returning to Twitter solely in the hope of winning favour with Musk/Trump. It's amazing to see how quickly and openly things are moving in the direction of unbridled corruption, even by Washington's standards

Trump announced reparations for white people today, if anyone was wondering how wildly racist this is going to get

Disturbing prediction from @pkrugman.bsky.social: If Trump's deportations really happen, inflation will spike, then MAGA loyalists will corrupt government info to mask it. For autocrats, he says, "among their first targets are statistical agencies." Our exchange: newrepublic.com/article/1883...

Even the vague idea that a government official/advisor would immeditaly seek to create merchandizing for their new department, would be absolutely insane if it wasn´t actively anti-democratic.

This is a new opinion piece by martinmckee.bsky.social, me and Kent Buse on the weaponisation of disinformation in the presidential campaign and why it matters for all of us Here I set out a thread covering the main points. Please share! 1/13

As a menopausal women, I've decided to start tracking my "period" in my health app to screw up their data.

WSJ: The Trump transition team is considering a draft executive order that establishes a “warrior board” of retired senior military personnel with the power to review three- and four-star officers and to recommend removals of any deemed unfit for leadership. LINK: www.wsj.com/politics/nat...

"RFK Jr. is the poster boy for the new Trump administration, a rich man who never has had to worry about a thing in his life, putting the lives of ordinary Americans in jeopardy because he thinks he knows better than scientists."

If they can manage to set aside an actual conviction for acts undertaken before he became President, following a trial after he ceased being President, on the grounds that he's going to be President, then America really has elected a king. www.theguardian.com/us-news/2024...

Airlines have merged from 12 carriers in 1980 to 4 today. 4 companies control 85% of beef processing, 70% of the pork market, and 54% of poultry. Albertsons, Kroger, and Walmart control 70% of the grocery sales in 167 cities. Minimal competition means maximized price-gouging.

They will start with the people who are already unsupported and work their way towards activists and others. This was the strategy behind targeting trans people, only now it’s about concentration camps. As Karl says, now is the time to start standing up. And getting others to as well.

the actual best thing you can do for your mental health the next 4 years is make it a point to not wake up everyday and google the president to see what shit he did while you were asleep. Stay engaged, stay aware stay alert but don't do this, it will not only not help it'll make you feel worse daily

"Less well known is the fact that before World War II, the Nazis framed German Jews as aliens who needed to be forced into emigration or expelled. This was the original logic for stripping Jews of citizenship: to officially render them foreigners."

From the outlet that brought you “some have detected a new softness to Trump” comes “can Trump be the new Reagan?” @politico what game are y’all watching?

I’m a public librarian in a degenerating democracy, and I am pleading: Care about your library. Use it. See what programs and events it offers. And pay attention to its governing body. See who the trustees are. Consider running yourself. Libraries will need all the community support they can get. 📚

This may really matter for things like keeping the ACA alive.

very cool that the federal government is now a wholly owned subsidiary of elon musk. they probably will try to make it illegal to not advertise on twitter too.

It's absurd and counterproductive just how hard Democrats work to portray themselves as bipartisan and happy to work with Republicans. There's no evidence it helps! All it does is normalize and validate Republicans! Lean into to negative partisanship. Tell your constituents the truth about the GOP.
