I agree with the spirit of the article but one minor point about language. By using Gwangju as a shorthand for the violence of May 18, the city and its people are unintentionally flattened and fixed to a single tragic, heroic moment.

I know it's hard to do because of how committed you are to the classroom, but that seems like a very legitimate reason to cancel classes.
