Co-author’s kiddo is dabbling in DJing and made this track. Give it a listen. I’m entirely biased but I think it’s pretty great. m.youtube.com/watch?v=mfi3...

Booker: Do you think we got the right to vote for women because a bunch of men on the House floor got together and said “on the count of three, women get the right to vote..” That’s not how it happened… Change doesn’t come from Washington. It comes to Washington.

Today I had to explain to my students that they can no longer access the USIP website for their human security case study project because it is still blocking all traffic. Decades of research and progress, my brilliant colleagues’ work, my work, all in the name of peace and security is just…gone.

@dandrezner.bsky.social Thanks for posting the CU Poli Sci response to the Trump letter on your blog. Here's one from across the street at Teachers College. Would be great if you'd share! docs.google.com/document/d/1...

USIP’s home page as of 8:57pm eastern time.

Just…wow.

Sharing letter w/4 Columbia colleagues @pagefortna.bsky.social @vickymurillo.bsky.social Allison Carnegie & Turku Isiksel in which we speak only for ourselves, imagining how we would respond to the govt. This is *not* an official university statement. Grateful to @dandrezner.bsky.social for posting.

This is how it’s done: @profsaunders.bsky.social and several colleagues at Columbia have suggested text for their university to respond to the Trump administration. Kudos to @dandrezner.bsky.social for posting danieldrezner.substack.com/p/guest-post...

Despicable.

Proud to be an AAUP member. Fellow faculty, it’s a good time to join. ✊🏼

What are we teaching our students if we refuse to stand up for the importance of colleges and universities? www.thecrimson.com/article/2025...

🧵 Friends, a thread speaking just for myself. I joined Columbia in Jan 2024. A lot I still don't know, but some is crystal clear. Most important is what's not in the news: Columbia students and faculty show great capacity for respectfully and thoughtfully engaging difficult topics every day. 1/

EXCLUSIVE: Sources tell WIRED that Elon Musk has wanted a government shutdown in part because it would potentially make it easier to eliminate the jobs of hundreds of thousands of federal workers.

Protesting and boycotting are not illegal actions, but leveraging public office for financial gain is.

Now, more than ever, conversations about making higher ed (and every profession) accessible are so important. The vignette contributors are 💯. This project was the culmination of so many real talks. 📚 More good trouble is forthcoming in 2025.

None of us can be sure what will “work.” You try multiple things and find your way in. Read some histories of the Civil Rights Movement by those who participated. They were never “sure” of what would work. Some campaigns fizzled out. But persistence, creativity, determination, and focus were key.

"History will remember this day— when an American President and Vice President abandoned all we stand for."

What say you House and Senate Republicans? Check your souls and see if they’re there still there. 🇺🇦🇺🇦

What can you do about the assault on USAID? Share this far and wide. Do your part! Please do retweet 🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼

For a change of pace this morning, I had my kids help me with the call to one of my Senators. We reported that they watched @kaine.senate.gov hold the floor last night and wanted to say thank you. I’m pretty sure their chorus of tiny voices made the staffer’s morning. 10/10 highly recommend.

More of this! Thank you, Senate Dems. 🔥 www.senate.gov/legislative/...

Now would be a great time to allow CDC and FDA experts to, oh, I dunno, SPEAK FREELY.

Hi, scientists. You're seeing what we all are: USAID illegally blown up, 20 yr olds dumping code into the Treasury's seven-trillion-dollar payment system, Senators and House members joining protests at Treasury today... It's a lot. It's a national crisis. What should you do now? 🧵 🧪 1/x

TOMORROW: We’re rallying at the Treasury building with @moveon.org to stop Elon Musk’s hostile takeover and tell this unelected billionaire to get his hands off our money. We hope you can join us if you’re in the D.C. area.

When I was a Hill staffer in 2009, a Dem trifecta was trying to pass universal healthcare. In response, Senate GOP released a memo detailing all of the tactics they in the minority could use to delay the effort as much as possible. I'm recirculating that 2009 GOP memo here. Take inspiration from it.

friendly reminder that the best case scenario over the coming years is that a lot of people say "I supported Trump but this isn't what I wanted at all" and when they do that it's gonna be really, really important that we say "welcome in," not "fuck you, we told you so"

The word for this is "coup."

USAID.gov is down. Why is this concerning? Trump has no legal authority to eliminate a congressionally funded independent agency. The work of USAID is vital, and if this can happen to them, it can happen to any of us.

Dear Canada and Mexico, We’re so, so sorry. — Sane America

Fellow NSA - National Security Agency veterans. Look at what’s happened at the National Cryptologic Museum. They covered up with brown paper the photos of Women in American Cryptology. All in response to President Trump’s anti-diversity executive order.

The biggest news today isn’t Trump’s tariffs on Mexico, Canada, and China. It’s that an unelected billionaire now has access to your Social Security income. Americans should be asking: Who really controls our future? www.nytimes.com/2025/02/01/u... #SocialSecurity #WealthPower
