Reading past the lurid headline the article was pretty well written, with appropriately sobering contribution from @profrobhoward.bsky.social. Mail gonna Mail though, comments quickly veer off into posts about asylum seekers, big pharma conspiracy stuff, and “diet cures dementia”…

Just give me evidence that dementia and delirium are more than simply associated with each other. One might just as easily (and more convincingly) say dementia is a risk factor for delirium.

I don’t think this is true, Simon. Look at all the (largely futile, so far) attempts to slow/stop MCI progression by tackling “risk factors”.

It’s a risk factor for subsequent dementia diagnosis, for sure. But that isn’t the same as a risk factor for dementia.

Thanks Art. Writing this helped us fully understand ourselves why we felt so uneasy about some of the analyses that were presented in support of the clinical utility of the drugs. We couldn’t understand why group-level averages of difference were replaced and turns out our puzzlement was justified.
