CARTOON OF THE DAY

Probably the stupidest aspect of this whole DOGE performance is how mind-boggling expensive it'll be in the end.

If bad actors seized the reins of US gov't and just followed whatever the Russian version of the Simple Sabotage Handbook is, how would that be different from DOGE?

Trump and Putin are ideologically-aligned authoritarian kleptocrats, and of course both agree that it's in their respective interests for Trump to be POTUS. But I strongly suspect there's more to it than that and I hope one day we learn why Trump surrendered so eagerly.

One of the reasons it's so easy to argue that Musk is effectively the de-facto dictator of our country now is that Trump is pretty much just retired now. Got himself the immunity he needs to keep himself out of prison, so now he's just golfing.

GAO and department IGs work for the American people and are are accountable if they make mistakes or fail to do their jobs. This is the reason DOGE exists. Trump and the GOP need a way to declare things they don't like as waste or fraud WITHOUT being accountable or being beholden to the truth.

Jesus christ, was I giving him ideas?

A dictatorship hosting another dictatorship to negotiate with an aspiring dictatorship about the future of a democracy that’s not represented.

Sen Mike Lee really should resign.

Fact check: nearly 70 percent of US money for Ukraine actually went to US defense industry to replenish the stocks of OLD stuff that went to Ukraine to use. Much of which we would have paid to destroy as their lifespan expired.

Well said.

Compliments of 🟠. Geauga County, Ohio, YMCA….

When I heard Musk say this on Tuesday, my assumption was that it was a programming issue. Because I can code and have written to databases and because I am familiar with other examples of default values being misinterpreted. Yet somehow Musk isn't.

The DOGE "force of super-geniuses" reinventing our $6 trillion government forgot to password-protect their website. Here's what it looks like right now www.404media.co/anyone-can-p...

Over the coming months, part of the struggle we'll have to face is MAGA inevitably blaming their failures on the rest of us. Don't discount their capacity for cognitive dissonance - they'll 💯% be mad at US for letting them punch themselves in the balls.

DOGE is a criminal organization. Time for it to die.

If you wanted no leaks you should have gone into Settings -> Security -> Configure privacy & security -> Privacy options -> Other -> Configure -> Media interface and clicked “Disallow.” The Leak setting is on by default but we understand your privacy is important so we’ve made it easy to opt out

This is perfect explanation

if there is one funny thing about yesterday’s blitzkrieg of executive orders is that it makes the “democratic opposition went too far last time” crowd look like total dipshits

Releasing the J6 terrorists is, itself, a seditious act, and unambiguous grounds for impeachment. Someone had to say it.

I guess what's mostly on my my today as I read headlines from yesterday's events is that I'm less upset that people who've shown us their depravity over and over are doing depraved stuff, it's watching people celebrate the depravity as if it's fine.

"On one hand, there’s the entire foundation of the American rule of law. On the other hand, some hypothetical future president might need some hypothetical bold fearlessness that requires them to commit crimes. Against that twisted logic, Jack Smith — and the American people — never stood a chance."

Whatever you’re imagining, it’s going to be 4x dumber that that.

Mark Zuckerberg cited a "cultural tipping point" to justify dumping fact-checks and relaxing hate speech rules. I wrote about how, for Meta, these kinds of tipping points seem to come along every four years. www.washingtonpost.com/politics/202...

I wish I lived in a country where Mitch McConnell, John Kelly, Bill Barr and John Bolton had at least half the balls of E. Jean Carroll, Stormy Daniels, Christine Blasey Ford, or Anita Hill.

He died as he lived, clicking “Forgot password,” then checking his inbox for a code, then putting in that code, then setting up two-step verification, and then waiting for the text message that doesn’t come, and then calling the 800 number, and then downloading an authenticator app, and dying.

Many folks are facing a hard question this holiday: How can you face Trump-voting relatives? Do you have to? In this deep dive, I interview people who cut off MAGA parents. I also review what the experts, what parents, and what the mainstream media says. www.salon.com/2024/12/18/g...
