Hehe, yeah, but not quite optional, either.

Seems to me that "accompanied by desperation" is somewhat more than that, but, no, you're not wrong.

Okay, now that begins to make sense. Thank you! It begins to sound like: Do good where you are. Immediately, not merely in the abstract. (It begins to sound to me like an explanation for why the Effective Altruism movement strikes me as so very misguided.)

Point: “a man ought to love himself more than his neighbor.” taylormarshall.com/2025/01/jd-v... Counterpoint: "You shall love your neighbor as yourself." (Matthew 22:36) Jesus was frequently hard to understand. This was not one of those times.

I'm a lifetime Catholic, and I'd never heard of it. Also, I can't find anything on ordo amoris that comes near to clarity. Then there are things that directly and quite explicitly contradict the clearest thing that God's Law made flesh ever said, that one time He was asked to summarize Himself.

I had to look it up, and you remember correctly. The specific higher-up was an Argentinian bishop named Francis. www.ncregister.com/cna/pope-fra...

Yeah, and that article didn't help at ALL.

"[A]t this point [...] Msgr. Diego Ravelli, master of papal liturgical celebrations, will say the Latin command, "Extra omnes!" which means, "Everyone out!" All but the 133 cardinal electors will have to leave the chapel." (From www.ncronline.org/vatican/conc... )

Not a stupid question. If you'll let me be vague about why I think I might have some insight here, you might be surprised at how rare suicidal ideation is. You might therefore conclude that your low end of the spectrum is higher than you'd like it to be. I needed help when I was where you are.

"ban assault weapons" "guns mean small dick" and a bunch of similar shibboleths don't change the fundamental reality that if armed people want you dead and you don't have some way of opposing them you fucking die

According to the 2021 census, Catholics make up 29.4% of Canada's population. This is more than I would have expected, but not a majority.

And then there's the prevailing idea that bad actors aren't responsible for their behavior. it's the job of the "reasonable" folks to control the unreasonable, and calling out the bad actors is somehow trying to deflect our responsibility to manage them. That has landed us SQUARELY here today.

It just demonstrates the degree of tech's perversion that scrum master is a position of respect, while in the real world if you called someone that you'd be picking up teeth from the floor of the bar

Huh. This is exactly the sort of useful information I wouldn't even know how to find.

You're nearly uniquely qualified to help with that very thing. Dude, you could do a world of good by (a) documenting just those things in a book, (b) persuading someone similarly skilled and knowledgeable to do so, or/and (c) providing a bibliography for the energetic to self-educate.
