Evidence from MESSENGER suggests that the surface of Mercury is very low in iron; minerals either formed under extremely oxygen-poor conditions, or were smelted as they erupted (maybe both). If you look up Mercury tonight, know that soon ESA & JAXA's Bepi Colombo will unlock even more secrets.

youtu.be/KQRaj1vcnrs?... This song is running on repeat in my head. Also, I am grateful that I grew up in the music video era.

I feel like the right time to open a space-themed coffee shop with free tutoring in math and science is drawing rapidly near.

This page is slow to load today. I hope that is an indication of others in the US looking to help directly. 🌻🇺🇦 u24.gov.ua/about

I'm so excited that I figured out why my gifs were not posting. This is like the opposite of when something like a printer jamming causes a total inexplicable meltdown. I feel unbridled joy, knowing that I can now respond with clips of random things to express myself.

Exactly a year ago on Weds, NASA'a Lunar Trailblazer spacecraft was fully assembled and undergoing testing. Today, it sits in a fairing atop a Falcon 9 ready for Thurs morning launch. @oxfordphysics.bsky.social built the Lunar Thermal Mapper, which is the black box upper right. #planetsci 🧪🔭 #Moon

It's hard to believe this is finally happening! It will be the first mission that I've been a part of from concept, through proposal, to launch. What an absolute honor. High school me would never in a million years have expected this!

The launch of Intuitive Machines' second lunar lander will be on Feb 26. IM-2 will land near the Moon's south pole in early March and get to work with rovers, a drill, a hopper, and more! The third IM lander will carry APL's Lunar Vertex science payload to the mysterious Reiner Gamma lunar swirl.

I was at a punk show in 83 where a skinhead jumped up on stage and gave a Nazi salute. The bass player hit him with his bass, knocking him into the crowd and 150 people collectively hauled his ass out of the venue and threw him in the mud. This was the right and only appropriate response.

youtu.be/Wh3t49NsWBA?... music of my youth keeps popping into my head...no idea why that could be?

youtu.be/ao-Sahfy7Hg?...

Oh yeah!!! What a time to be back on the crochet train!

Music is definitely curing my sanity right now. This may be a long shot, since my taste was relatively niche even when it was new, but if anyone has recommendations for industrial bands whose members are not ~60+ yrs old, I am looking for who I'm going to see in concert when others stop touring

Almost done! Cenobites, come on in...you probably won't make things worse at this point.

A looping journey is in store for Lunar Trailblazer, which is set to launch in less than 2 weeks. The small satellite will use the Sun, Earth, and Moon's gravity over several months to slowly enter lunar orbit, where it'll map the Moon's surface water. go.nasa.gov/40UZgAN

Finally getting to paint again. Still a work in progress--the left side needs cleaning up and the sides you can't see in the picture are unfinished. But it's a nice way to lose myself a bit right now. If you recognize the design, let me know in the comments 😊

If you follow the accounts of planetary scientists here, you may have heard about the suspension of the Here to Observe program. I'd like to take a few minutes of story time to tell you about it, if you're interested. (1/n)
