The nine most terrifying words in the English language: “I’m from the DoGE and I’m here to help.”

I think these sort of stories are important at this moment. It's one thing to report the number of employees fired (which is very high!). It's another to make people (and elected officials) confront the fact that these are their neighbors. www.mprnews.org/story/2025/0...

Over on X, simple tweets by my colleague Greg Bluestein of the Atlanta Journal Constitution have been blocked. They were nothing but video of a town hall held by Rep. Rich McCormick R-GA where he was asked questions about DOGE

I absolutely need a telescope! These are amazing! Via IG: Starxxkitten 1st pic is Bubble Nebula 2nd pic is Rosette Nebula

Elon Musk is cratering in polls: WaPo: Only 34% approve of Musk's role, 63% worry about his data access CNN: 54% say it's bad Musk was given a big role Majorities disapprove of Trump in CNN, WaPo, Gallup. On the pod, @juliaazari.bsky.social is great on all this: newrepublic.com/article/1917...

Elon is up to something with these telecommunications companies and Starlink. Maybe a surveillance backdoor? I dunno…

How stupid and arbitrary are Trump's mass firings at federal agencies? A State Dept employee tells me some colleagues are racing to change their job descriptions so phrases like "transnational crime" don't get caught up in DOGE AI bots scanning for words like "trans" to fire people because "DEI."

BREAKING: In a stunning moment of defiance, Maine's Governor Janet Mills stands up to Trump, saying she is complying with state and federal (anti-discrimination) law, and will see him in court over his threat to withhold federal funds. This is incredible.

We refuse to let the oligarchs win and control us, and I feel a sea change (link to full video in reply)

Jessica: There was a huge drop in support for President Trump and for Elon Musk. Trump’s approval rating is down 5-7 points across four of these big polls. He’s underwater on managing the economy by 8 points. Did you see those town halls? Rich McCormick were booing him.

GOP Rep. Rich McCormick at his town hall last night justified the Trump administration firing CDC workers by saying "a lot of the work they do is duplicitous with AI"

💯

Gift link. A small unelected, secretive crew now has free access to sensitive private data of everyone. And Musk is already publicly targeting family members of judges who rule against the administration. If this isn’t ringing alarm bells, I don’t know what would. www.nytimes.com/2025/02/21/o...

Recognizing Elon Musk for the massive “insider threat” that he is, and drawing a parallel between infiltration by the DOGE sysadmins & Edward Snowden

"Key congressional Republicans have powers they’re choosing not to use... "Senator Susan Collins, for example, believes the White House and DOGE may be breaking the law. She doesn’t, however, seem eager to use her considerable influence..." www.msnbc.com/rachel-maddo...

Laid-off IRS employee said he had voted for Trump: "I thought that someone with his business acumen would have come in with a fine-tooth comb and actually found it instead of coming in with a wrecking ball and destroying people’s lives for no reason." www.nbcphiladelphia.com/news/local/p...

Do you guys ever think about how right now, deep in the ocean, a dolphin is pouring themselves a tall, refreshing glass of air?

As I empirically show in a forthcoming article, it takes a lot of capacity (e.g., employees) to change regulations and comply with the APA. Trump's deregulatory agenda will be frustrated by his efforts to reduce the size of the federal workforce.

I've read most of the analyses of the DOGE 2025 "receipts" site. This, from NPR, is the best I've read so far. Some of what they claim to have cut haven't been cut, other "cuts" will incur costs down the road. NPR says DOGE has made $2B of cuts, not $55B. www.npr.org/2025/02/19/n...

The king has lost his crown.

Poor JD. I guess he just wasn’t ready.

The waste is coming from the White House. 👇

Oh my God if this is true
