taking a course overload this semester is definitely eating into my time greatly but on the other hand if I were not teaching this semester I think I simply would have lost it at this point

The scholarly publishing system is broken for a lot of reasons but the precaritization of academic labor is a big one. Paying some of the many, many adjuncts and NTT professors who are also keeping up on literature to do reviews isn't the whole solution but I think it's a big part of it.

Look I know it's a cliché, but call your fucking reps. They don't get scared unless they hear from an overwhelming number of us all the time. Call them every damn day. Tell them to fight the hell back and protect us from Musk and Trump. It matters and it makes a difference, right now. reps.fyi

No, the mail is not “the least of our worries.” It’s a fucking important worry. It is the only postal service that delivers to every address. They are only provider of complete mail services for overseas military bases and provide free overseas PO boxes. They help prepare passport apps. Ship meds…

TWENTY FIVE THOUSAND DOLLARS FOR TRANS KIDS. AMAZING. So many beautiful things finding new homes, and so much good being done!!! #ofmdcraftfair (more items dropping on Monday, so keep your eyes peeled!!)

I think it’s the racism, homophobia, and transphobia that men are socialized to accept as perfectly reasonable that people have a problem with—not jokes and beer and friendship.

This is who I been dressing for

Excellent review of Adam Kirsch's On Settler Colonialism by @samuelhayimbrody.bsky.social . www.bostonreview.net/articles/the...

We see your tiny Hedge Hog (so precious) and we raise you... miniature Galileo!

this has already raised nearly 17k for trans kids in less than 24 hours, check it out if you are into cool crafts!

If you've been hearing about what happened to Sam Nordquist, and how the New York Times tried to erase him, take a moment to space some thought for his family, and lend them a hand in this awful time.

Not surprised that it's community colleges that are fighting back. Community colleges serve the greatest number of people facing systemic barriers. A large percentage of community college students are the first in their family to attend college.

NEW: Guest post from almost-Rabbi Ben Luks-Morgan: "We who transition into new names, new identities we have always been here in Jewish being and text. Transgender people have always been here. Queer people. Those who don’t quite fit the normative boundaries of Self-- have always been here."

Allowing the administration to define broad swaths of history, programming and civil rights compliance as “DEI” and then regurgitating that language instead of clearly articulating what specifically is being targeted is spreading disinformation and propaganda.

When you share this image, you are blindly repeating one of the most unapologetic, vile pieces of transphobia ever uttered on television. Spitting on Brandon Teena's grave for Internet points. I'm posting this because I still see it randomly posted without any context.

:)

Beautiful riso-printed version of @courtniewolfgang.bsky.social's urgent zine on supporting+affirming trans+queer students+educators vs the "radical indoctrination" EO's violence. Anyone can read the PDF version of the zine+print it (share/leave copies around) for free zinebakery.com/redistro/sup...

also I was recently put onto this app called Finch where you can set goals for self care, productivity, etc and send a tiny bird on adventures. please observe my tiny transgender bird (I did of course name them Muldumarec)

anyway the world is shit but trans people rock. finished two great nonfiction books by trans authors this weekend. continuing on my goal of reading at least one book by a trans author every month this year

This is a good time to remind everyone that this administration hasn't done anything for anyone. It has literally only taken away things we've already paid for and fired and sued people. Oh and the quid pro quo with Adams. That's the extent of what they have done. Kinda nuts.

Happy #BlackHistoryMonth! What began as a simple reading list of forthcoming Black transfemme novels blossomed into a full critique of White supremacist publishing, Black literary erasure, and the supplementarity of the Black transfemme body as text 🖤

Yesterday, several hundred people gathered outside Lurie Children’s Hospital to protest the hospital’s pause of gender-affirming surgeries for patients under 19 in compliance with the Trump executive order. My story for @blockclubchi.bsky.social with 📷 by @taliaspraguephotography.com

Wow, a 3,400 year-old ancient Egyptian paint box containing its original pigments! Looks similar to a modern-day set! An inscription tells us it belonged to Amenemope, Vizier during the reign of king Amenhotep II. 📷 The Cleveland Museum of Art www.clevelandart.org/art/1914.680 #Archaeology

We won’t disappear just because you change a website.

the Heart Book was also very clearly the model for this manuscript in The Green Knight (2021)!

Go off queen

Targeting trans people, Black people, immigrants etc is not a “distraction” from fascism, it IS fascism. It lives in complementary relationship to destroying democracy, because democracy is inherently about participation of minorities.

Eric Adams is captive to a federal administration that is waging war on the working class of our city. He needs to be removed from office now.

I’ve seen too many higher ed folks wave away the threat to our universities. We need to understand what is coming and get organized right now to fight back. Join your union, form a union, join your AAUP chapter, talk to your colleagues. Do it now @ucaft.bsky.social

At the stonewall monument rn

I’m headed to Stonewall to cover a protest against the Trump administration erasing trans and queer people from the Stonewall National Monument website last night. See below from ACT UP, and AP coverage of the website purge. www.huffpost.com/entry/stonew...

This is where you go to tell the National Park Service to restore the word "transgender" in its entry on the Stonewall monument. (Scroll down.)

Did you know that Gov. Hochul's proposed budget includes a $10 million cut to library construction aid? At a time when we need libraries more than ever? If you're in New York State, take a moment to let your reps know NO CUTS TO LIBRARIES. oneclickpolitics.global.ssl.fastly.net/messages/edi...

I will say premodern trans studies is one of the few things about academia that gives me any sort of hope these days

The Partition of India displaced 20 million people, killed almost 2 million & created a refugee crisis whose effects are still in play over 70 years later, if you actually think it's a model for anything but massive catastrophe, you should not only not be employed here you should be in a padded cell

Free virtual panel on Tue Feb 18 3pm EST on #Disability in #AsianStudies: Blindness and Leprosy in #EarlyModern #Japan, featuring two amazing scholars Wayne Tan and Susan Burns! Register in advance to receive the Zoom link. #DisabilitySky #DisHist #SkyStorians

We looked at the death schedule and talked about how most of the things they died of are prevented now by vaccines and clean water and today we have a HHS secretary who wants to take us back to the deaths of 1850

crazy work to effectively price out graduate students and ECR from a major conference

but in more positive news my students are absolutely loving SGJ's Mongrels so far, I had several people say they didn't think they'd like it but they found themselves really enjoying it and wanting to keep reading beyond what was required for class

please say this again.
