Anyone @ucirvine.bsky.social have a really tall ladder that the #Nicholaslab can use??? We're not trying to call facilities. Lol. Once we get a ladder you'll see what it is for. :)

I have been talking to the media, Time, Fortune, NBC, etc., to explain how the onslaught on science and NIH will impact the health of all Americans. Everyone knows someone who has cancer, heart disease, or depression. Spread the word about how cutting science impacts all. time.com/7216299/nih-...

Guess the theme for K2’s birthday party?!

Update. Surgery went well. Getting discharged today. Nir Drayman legit saved my life and I'm so grateful he acted so quickly. Now to recover.

#HappyValentinesDay Made these treats for the #Nicholaslab but didnt get to see them enjoy it. Thank you @NirDrayman for acting quickly to get me to the hospital. Emergency surgery but Im good. Deja vu to when my now husband sat with me in the hospital when we first met. ❤️ him

Submitted my first grad student's 1st first author paper! That's a first for me. Not letting current circumstances steal #Nicholaslab joy. Congrats Naveena and team on this milestone #newPI

As a leader in my lab & various initiatives, I’ve made my stance clear....my commitment to DEI is unwavering. I won’t back down or shy away, even as others do. I’ll continue to uphold and advocate for these values.

Call for abstracts! Research is under attack but we can push back by moving technology forward. #flowcytometry allows detection of blood cancers and advancement in technology is leading to new discoveries that are the basis cancer cures. Socalflow.org

Today... my 4yr old told me that she is the only smart person in the world. 😆 I asked her what about mommy. She said yeah. I asked her what about daddy. She said no. Lmao 🤣

Today they went nuclear. Imagine all firefighters were told "You all still have salaries, but as of today the government will no longer pay for building maintenance, firetruck maintenance and repair, hydrant upkeep, or admin assistants." That's what they're doing to US universities.

This is a full on assault on education. The US is the world leader in innovation research, technology only because we as a society support it. Without support for world leading research, we will brain drain and the best and brightest will go where research thrives www.statnews.com/2025/02/07/n...

Noted. Performative vs commitment. I'm done with hopeless and sadness. Now I'm angry www.science.org/content/arti...

I keep feeling like crying at the state of the US. I baked cookies this morning. The sugar is wearing off already.

Still grounding myself in the chaos. Sometimes you just wake up and bake a cobbler #scientistswhobake

Business as usual seems soo odd but some things must go on. Finalizing the Midterm for my immunology class. I hope my students are studying hard and ready to crush it. I believe in them!

On this first day of #BlackHistoryMonth I'd like to share how much I admire the work of Dr. Kizzmekia Corbett, who did trailblazing work developing the COVID vaccine that saved millions of lives around the world. She continues to be a role model every day.Gift article www.nytimes.com/2023/02/09/s...

Hi All, you will be seeing me share this GoFundMe across platforms regularly. My friend, fellow scientist and person I love needs support. She's battling cancer but she doesn't have to do it alone. Please donate or share even a little makes a difference. gofund.me/01259717

#BlackHistoryMonth seems ESPECIALLY important now. So, I pledge to teach myself about a Black scientist everyday this month & report back here. Our Black brothers & sisters have done enough of the heavy lifting in the education of white people. I’m going to start with these men. #🧑🏿‍🔬👩🏿‍🔬🧪

In the midst of chaos as a #newPI doing acade research and supporting #DEI I enjoyed my 4yo flying a kite my dad made. Reminds me of my childhood flying newspaper kites that were better than anything store bought

Happy Black History Month! #BlackHistoryMonth www.sciencebuddies.org/blog/black-h...

Literally watching everything I care about and love being dismantled by ignorance and racism. I'm doubling down on finding other ways to support students who otherwise would never have the opportunity. If it weren't for these programs I would have never even known what research was.

This thread makes me happy. Short but the energy I needed to get out of my funk

With science funding in turmoil, If you are an educator like me, one thing we can do is educate our students about the impact of NIH and NSF funding, both on the science we teach and on the economy of our state & nation--this site from FASEB is a great resource 🧪 1/n www.faseb.org/science-poli...

I knew this journey as a #newPI and #momlife would challenging. This morning I felt on top of my responsibilities until my 4 yr old woke up with a fever. My week is flipped upside-down. The struggle is balancing responsibilities while making my baby know she is the priority #tired

I needed some joy. Scraped discussion plans and replaced a worksheet with an in person learning activity. #Mindmap for UCIBioSci M121 ##immunology Making connections amongst complex info. Putting my #iracda training to good use #pedagogy #newPI #LearnAndGrow #WorkSmart

I just wrote to my two senators and my representative - everyone should

I had an amazing visit with the neuroscience dept at Einstein College of Medicine. Great students, new collaborators and problem solving..yet I woke up crying. My heart is heavy for the future of research in the US

This is SO SAD! Two remarkable scientists and leaders

Just got the black screen of death on my laptop. I have class today and am traveling Tuesday to give a talk and need to record lecture. Going analog today and will figure this out tonight. Winter quarter is kicking my butt.

I’m fine and my lab is fine, but many in the UCLA community are not, following the recent fires in Los Angeles. If you feel compelled to help, Baby2Baby, Pasadena Humane, and World Central Kitchen are great organizations helping the Los Angeles community and accepting monetary donations.

Lab #Christmas gifts arrived today!!! Lol. I know ..late. loving these #Nicholaslab pins. We stay swagged out
