Many years ago when I interned at NCEP/EMC I would go to both the WPC and CPC discussions. Learned so much just by osmosis in those rooms, so much expertise!

One thing I miss from undergrad are balloon launches! Especially when I’m sitting at my computer trying to compile code for the 235th time 😅

Yeah it’s so frustrating, sounds like it on your end too! I’ve learned that there are individuals within the bureaucracy and red tape who really do want to help, and reaching those people can make a big difference!

In a similar vein, I’ve had nightmares getting and verifying prior authorizations for my insurance company in order to fill some of my T1D supplies. Sadly have become an expert in what phrasings to use to escalate a call or get to the right person. They don’t make it easy…

Yeah: anecdotal, but my experience with posting about posters on twitter is that it helped me get a LOT more visitors and traffic! It wasn’t perfect, but in a way it made my voice as a graduate student feel less drowned out
