When the Trump admin talks about their "anti-DEI" purge, they mean erasing from public life people who are disabled, including the chronically ill. It's not just anti-Blackness driving the purge: it's anti-anyone-not-white, it's anti-woman, it's anti-disabled, including your grandma & injured vets.

We have had nearly two decades of panic about Free Speech on Campus and not a single case, not even the ones they made up, were as bad as what's happening now

The most serious Nazi shit in this extremely Nazi shit executive order may be the idea, just slipped in there, that one of the "divisive narratives that distort our shared history" is that "race is not a biological reality but a social construct." www.whitehouse.gov/presidential...

This isn't just POTUS hawking Teslas from the WH driveway like a Ginsu knife infomercial on late-nite TV. This is the broligarchs using the power of the federal government--which they have just purchased--to shove AI & crypto down our throats. Ensuring their bad investments pay off, at our expense.

The people responsible for this should be fired directly into the sun www.nytimes.com/2025/03/26/h...

Detailed and terrifying description of how the Trump Administration is taking apart Social Security piece by piece. You don't have to cut benefits. You just make it impossible for the government to deliver them. www.washingtonpost.com/politics/202...

But his signal chats

It's painful how stupid these guys are

Today I lost an NIH grant training clinicians to do research about intimate partner violence with perinatal women. More women are murdered in the perinatal period than die of obstetric complications. I didn't just lose a grant. We lost an entire cohort of people building careers to prevent that.

"On October 8, 1931, a law went into effect requiring every Italian university professor to sign an oath pledging their loyalty to the government of Benito Mussolini. Out of over 1,200 professors in the country, only 12 refused. All of them were immediately fired." www.chronicle.com/article/what...

🚨 Big SCOOP 🚨 Tax revenue could fall by as much as **10%** this year, per sources, as taxpayers and businesses see the Trump admin as less likely to challenge tax cheats. That'd be **$500 BILLION** in lost revenue. It'd nearly double the tax gap in a single year.

The Trump tax plan only works by cutting public services. This incredible visualization combines the potential tax cuts (which mostly go to the rich) and loss of services (mostly borne by the poor). It is a giant wealth transfer from the poorest to the richest. budgetlab.yale.edu/news/250319/...

Schoolhouse Rock but it's me learning about all the activities of government as Trump and Elon destroy them one by one

Hell.

We condemn in the strongest possible terms any university that would sacrifice its own students to the demands of an authoritarian government. This is absolute cowardice & capitulation to an administration hellbent on the destruction of American higher education. www.nytimes.com/2025/03/13/n...

NEW: Biggest Federal Employee Unions Says Shutdown is Preferable to Elon/Trump CR talkingpointsmemo.com/edblog/bigge...

This. The cuts may not technically affect the availability of financial aid. But the administrative burden (to use a term from @pamherd.bsky.social and @donmoyn.bsky.social) involved in accessing aid will increase substantially and thus reduce the use of those funds.

We are at post 9-11 levels of hysteria (with no terrorist attack) combined with 2025 surveillance and misinformation. A scholar at Yale suspended when an AI-driven article, co-authored by humans who want to remain anonymous (doxxing is bad!!) labels her a terrorist. www.nytimes.com/2025/03/12/u...

Computers are accusing humans of terrorism

If we can "avoid a government shutdown" by voting for this CR, then why is the entire Department of Education closed today? Why is USAID closed? Why are hundreds of billions in grant contracts frozen? We are already in the shutdown. And your votes DON'T stop it. In fact, they allow it to expand.

It’s not about rooting out fraud, it’s about benefiting from it. donmoynihan.substack.com/p/musks-frau...

@donmoyn.bsky.social Thanks for coming and speaking to us at IU today! I will be incorporating some of your thoughts into my lecture on tech in government this semester!

With his permission, I'm sharing Dean Treanor's response to Ed Martin's letter:

This is the literal dismantling of your national government

Let's call this what it is—the selling off of the collective assets of the United States to private investors—a massive transfer of wealth from the public sector to (some wealthy) private individuals. (and the GSA will likely lease a significant portion back, reinforcing the wealth transfer).

While my fellow scholars of Reconstruction rethink how we understand this moment of multiracial democracy amid the current crisis, I would really like to see an annotated edition of Du Bois’ Black Reconstruction that more fully engages his anti-colonial, anti-fascist, & anti-capitalist vision.

This is one of the reasons the “fraud, waste and abuse” claims is an effective political tool for Trump and Musk. People don’t want to cut spending, but also don’t want increased taxes. So just make them believe there’s a magical solution!

So they are both doing impoundment (not spending money that Congress and the courts have ordered to be spent) and the opposite - spending money on pet projects

New, from me: Musk is not just destroying core government functions, he is also destroying the tech capacity of government. The people with serious tech skills who care about fixing govt have been fired. Both 18F and the US Digital Service are gone. donmoynihan.substack.com/p/skilled-te...

I can't stop laughing at this man I'm sorry. This is the kind of shit the biggest loser in the world would say to their girlfriend about buying her flowers on Valentine's Day once, and he's doing so in an argument that started because he called her a bitch

it’s a great time to remind everyone to keep your cats indoors. i don’t want to hear that shit about how your cat is desperate to go outside or is used to being out there. i had an outdoor cat i had to bring inside after 13yrs. i know how they are. she lived to 20. they’ll get over it & so will you.

“Seminar on best practices for integrating AI into your teachi—“ Stop.

Just a reminder that fascists, authoritarians, dictators of all stripes destroy archives— books, museums, databases, &c— because those things provide windows onto a plurality of other ways we might organize the world. And so preserving, defending, and spreading that knowledge harms those regimes.

When people want to talk to me about the backlash against US higher ed but don't want to mention racism, this is one of the key reasons I become very annoyed (Also the data used to create this post had its contract canceled this month so are won't be able to track things like this in the future)

a new agency made of teenage neonazis and drug dealers is in charge of the entire government. the richest man in the world, who gave a nazi salute at the president's inauguration, says he is in charge. officially, he isn't. the government won't tell the courts who is in charge

If Trump wants to be king, he should first consider how autocrats' rule ends: The most likely outcome is removal by coup, death, civil war, or mass-revolts.

It seems almost unavoidable at this point that we are headed for a deep, deep recession. Just based on 200K+ federal firings & pullback of contracts, the March employment report (to be released April 4) seems certain to show bigger job losses than any month ever outside of a few in 2008-9 and 2020.

A labor economist told KCUR's Up To Date that Kansas City does not have enough available jobs in the area to make up for all the local federal workers getting laid off by the Trump administration.

Yep, DOGE is as incompetent as everyone thought. An $8 million "saving" has been listed as an $8 BILLION saving. That is 14.5% of their total claimed $55 billion in "savings" having been completely made up.

As a political scientist who studies countries that managed to stop the slide into authoritarianism, I can assure you that ***refraining from provoking the authoritarian*** is not how it works. Without further ado, I will now go tear out another chunk of hair.

NASA is a good example of actual American greatness: science, courage and ingenuity that enabled extraordinary achievement. It will be gutted by a group of racists in order to increase the profitability of Musk's companies.
