Today’s victory is important for ensuring my constituents remain free to speak out about the suffering they are experiencing, but it is not the end of my campaign to secure residents the respect and engagement they deserve from HS2 and their contractor BBV.

The damage, disruption, and poor public engagement experienced by residents in Water Orton and the surrounding area continues to blight the lives of my constituents.

Today, I am pleased to say they have backed down. They will no longer be issuing NDAs, will be withdrawing any that have been requested from members of the public, and will be writing to those who have signed them to tell them they are now void. That’s a massive win for my constituents.

So I wrote to them again.

I called HS2 in for a meeting, but still they stonewalled. They wouldn’t tell me whether these NDAs were mandatory to get compensation, how many people they had asked to sign one, or whether they had ever enforced one that was breached.

After my constituent contacted me, I wrote to HS2 demanding answers. Their reply to me answered nothing and was completely inadequate.

HS2 told my constituent last year that they would pay her £3500 for damage to her roof. The catch? She would have to sign a ‘gagging clause’ banning her from ever speaking about it to anyone. She said no and asked for the NDA to be dropped. They never replied to her email.

It's outrageous, which is why I'm pleased the government's new Water Bill going through parliament will see investment money ringfenced so it cannot be used to pay shareholders or bonuses.

Having listened carefully to the views of my constituents in North Warwickshire and Bedworth, I want to see those suffering the trauma of a terminal illness given the agency to make their own decisions about the time and manner of their death, subject to strict safeguards.

Freight criminals aren’t petty thieves, but serious organised criminals who need to be brought to justice. I will continue to work closely with government, businesses in my constituency, and the RHA to ensure action is taken to keep drivers safe and our freight industry secure.

Nearly 20% of workers in my constituency are employed in freight and logistics. This isn’t just a sector that is vital for our local economy, it’s also essential for the whole country – delivering the food to our supermarkets and our online purchases straight to our front doors.

Last week the APPG for Freight and Logistics, which I Chair, set out our recommendations in a new report, Securing our Supply Chains, supported by the RHA.

Ultimately, I want to see those suffering the trauma of a terminal illness given the agency to make their own decisions about the time and manner of their death, subject to strict safeguards, and that is why I will be voting in favour of a change to the law on 29 November. 6/6🧵

There are some arguing this Bill is being rushed. I do not agree, and I am pleased that @lucympowell.bsky.social has confirmed to the House that this Bill will be subject to the same full and proper scrutiny as any other law passing through parliament. 5/6🧵

Fundamentally, this bill is about allowing people, in very tightly defined circumstances, to have choice and control over how their lives will end. I am confident Kim's bill contains the important safeguards that are needed to prevent coercion and abuse. 4/6🧵

There are so many nuances and complexities to this discussion that I think often get lost. Contrary to what many might assume, it was fascinating this evening to listen to faith leaders in parliament speak about the reasons they are in favour of a change in the law. 3/6🧵

This is of course a highly emotive and sensitive subject, but I know that those on opposite sides of the debate can agree on the need to place the wishes and interests of those experiencing the immense trauma and suffering of terminal illness at the centre of this debate. 2/6🧵
