My understanding is there is not much else you can do with old tyres, so any use for them is welcome.

The only ray of hope is that Hendy told the Select Committee that having spent so much on phase 1, the country deserved to get the best use out of it. Limiting trains to 10 per hour would make no sense. Even if they don’t build phase 2, the train paths could be used for something.

Actually, having now watched the video, I don’t think it was unduly negative at all. You were merely describing what you saw, and you clearly explained the further improvements to come.

I think it is more useful for the rest of us of you are honest.

So is the model car part of it, or did it just happen to be in the photo? (Genuine question: Sorry if I am being dense…)

Scuse my ignorance, but what is it? In the background it looks like a model car.

The example in the article is a ridiculous one, but yes, the media always reach for an Anytime walk-up fare when making comparisons with, say, airline fares. They then invariably compare it to the cheapest available air fair.

Cycled around it in October. I had a brilliant day!

I agree that there is far too much exaggeration, inaccuracy and sloppy language on social media. I wish people would think before posting and be a bit more accurate and measured.

Or at worst, a momentary lapse of judgement by a young adult, not a thing that is entirely unknown in the wider world….

It is hard not to see Starmer’s fingerprints on this one. He gets flaky at the first whiff of bad news. His poorly-judged response to the ULEZ controversy in London comes to mind. I think Haigh did not jump but was pushed.

She is a human being at least. She answered questions incisively and without waffle. She had an obvious passion for railways and public transport. She was not just a career politician using Transport as a stepping stone to greater glory.

There is something odd about this, certainly. It does not make sense at all

It would be nice to see them widely in service at last.

And to me the Hammersmith & City does not replace the Liz Line but complements it. For plenty of destinations it is better and lots of people interchange between the two stations. All lines are crowded. I am not sure the Northern Line has the capacity to take everyone to the Liz Line.

A bigger ticket hall and circulating area is definitely needed and if you are building that, the eastern end of Euston Square is only 100 metres away across an already cleared site. Euston Square is considered unsafe in a fire due to the exit being only at one end. A Euston link solves this.

They HAVE to do this. It would be loopy-loo not to. Whatever plans they come up with for the Euston HS2 site, the tube station needs increased capacity. It is not if but when.

That someone was one Rishi Sunak (remember him?), who made specific mention of it, for some reason, in his infamous 2023 Conservative Party Conference speech.

Yes, I have to be honest, I nearly didn’t watch it. But I am glad I did.

It also quotes extensively from what is secretly my very favourite HS2 video. It still thrills me to watch this one.

I am sure it hasn’t. In their shoes I would be grumpy too. Though who cares about it taking 20 minutes longer (or less long) to get somewhere? Plus there may be a certain bias at see events towards attendees being unhappy rather than happy….

See also: “If only HS2 linked to HS1 I would be all in favour of it, but as it is I think linking Britain’s largest cities by high speed rail is a pointless white elephant that no one will use…”

Yes, this is twaddle. If you don’t want a 225mph railway running past your back garden, you are unlikely to be delighted by the prospect of a 186mph or even a 125mph one. Frankly, if HS2 was a green cycleway, people would be moaning about it.

Probably sunny there? I too am heading (even further) south today and it is very grey here. But there was blue sky to the north when I left home.
