Every interesting convo (i.e., not logs) that I have with a client about managing the search infra comes back to product and business goals and trade offs.

Lots of engineering is trade offs, and search—(not enough time or space to present what the user needs)—is pretty quintessential. Scale always comes down to trade off: what are you getting, what are you leaving.

Another problem is that tech teams never revise their code. They replace first drafts with newer first drafts. I think it’s an organizational problem.
