Some photos of me from a professional when I took part in the highlander event last year in the lake district. It was strange hiking as part of a big group, still prefer to not be near people! Still, thinking about hiking means I can ignore the news!

My brilliant attempt at pitching a tent in the lakes. Moved about 5 times, still was a terrible pitch!

Went for a night on the old Kinder Scout. Didn't expect it to still have snow/ice. Lovely stroll, wrong choice of sleeping pad made for a cold night. Not helped by going knee deep into a bog and getting stuck. Should have taken my gaiters!

A huge debt of gratitude to mountain rescue volunteers. Is it any wonder that pressure on this voluntary service has doubled when state funding of National Parks has been cut in half? Right now Peak District education and ranger staff are being made redundant… www.theguardian.com/uk-news/2025...

Yesterday I read Chris Townsend’s review of his favourite camps in 2024, and it prompted me to do the same. So here's a look back at my nights under canvas in 2024, from Arctic Norway to the Peak District and Eryri National Park. www.ashrouten.com/blog/my-favourite-camps-of-2024

Quite like this photo I took of the castle on holy island last week.

I’ve seen no more accurate summary of the UK government’s AI & copyright proposal: “The UK government mulls letting AI companies steal copyrighted work” filmstories.co.uk/news/the-uk-...

Just finishing a week holiday, traveling back tomorrow and then back at work on Monday. Think I'm doing Christmas wrong!

Took a trip down from Holy Island to see the castle I own. And run along the beach and enjoy the sand dunes. Not bad

I brought a pack of mini eggs yesterday...

Took a trip across the sea to Holy island

Went and did a bit of hiking again, staying very close to the Scottish border, tomorrow heading across to Kirk Yetholm and experience the end of the Pennine way.

I started a feed that picks up the names of long distance hiking trails around the world. Had to try to remember as many trail names as possible, there's like 100 of them on here. If you're posting about a trail and it isn't showing up, maybe I forgot it - lmk and I'll add! bsky.app/profile/did:...

The best hike I've ever done, one I have wanted to do as long as I can remember. Finally took on the coast to coast in may/April 23. 11 days of walking, camping all the way, and threw up just outside Richmond - I'll blame Sunak for that.

Back when I went hiking around Summerisle and didn't end up getting burnt by pagans. Isle of Whithorn was a beautiful coast to walk along.

Wild camping is one of the great pleasures of being outdoors the British countryside. Here's a thread to prove it. 1/25 🏕️ Just off the Machynlleth Mountain Road

"The Lakeland Way is a long-distance walk traversing for 144 miles through picturesque valleys and over mountain passes in the English Lake District. Starting and finishing at the small coastal village of Ravenglass, the twelve-day walk will take you through some of the finest of Lakeland scenery."

A snowy #fingerpostfriday , the calm before the storm 🌧️☔🫤

my mate found her mum’s official BMA sex ed booklet from the 50s. enjoy.

Last time I got out for a big hike was back in October. Got the urge to go live in the wilderness for about 3 weeks!
