There’s a really good Sarah Kendzior quote that comes to mind. @sarahkendzior.bsky.social

The cuts "would kill the much-anticipated Nancy Grace Roman Space Telescope, an observatory seen as on par with [Hubble & JWST] that is already fully assembled and on budget for a launch in two years." Would also apparently close NASA's Goddard Space Flight Center. Huge, HUGE loss for science.

BREAKING from @science.org: The Trump admin is seeking to kill nearly all climate research at NOAA, its climate science agency. Its near-final budget proposal would end all NOAA research labs, academic institutes, and regional climate centers. And it wants to fully end the NOAA Research division.

BREAKING — DOGE will descend upon Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC) buildings tomorrow, an agency source tells me. FDIC is responsible for insuring all commercial/personal US bank accounts for up to $250k and regulating banks. Scary in light of Trump’s manipulation of markets this week.

The problem with most machine-based random number generators is that they’re not TRULY random, so if you need genuine randomness it is sometimes necessary to link your code to an external random process like a physical noise source or the current rate of US tariffs on a given country.

Republicans in Congress can end this any time

The cuts are literally killing people, don't let anyone tell you otherwise (and this is, of course, just one example).

In 1987 I sat through an hour long lecture in my Modern US History course parsing several different complicated interpretations of why the 1929 crash happened. Future historians will be like "Donald Trump was an ignorant fool who imposed pointless tariffs that crashed the global economy. The end."

On March 30th of 1933, German linguist Victor Klemperer wrote in his diary: „And all opposing forces as if vanished from the face of the earth. It is this utter collapse of a power only recently present, no, its complete disappearance that I find so staggering.“

He has never acted rationally. But rational people kept constructing rational edifices to explain his behavior.

GM! 😁

Mood.

Not ignoring what is good, I am quick to perceive a horror

This is high art

Too many people interpret the constant chaos of the Trump regime as evidence that there is “no ideology.” But that misunderstands ideology to mean day-to-day consistency and order. The Nazi regime was plenty chaotic - yet the direction in which the chaos moved and escalated was defined by ideology.

Never forget that their plan is to destroy America. Every move is to destroy our economy, health, education, and labor rights. That's how they install the billionaires as de facto dictators and take away all of our real rights and bargaining power. They want us poor and starving, or dead.

[email protected] gets this right: "Perhaps the most frightening aspect is that the industries laughing in the face of planetary and social destruction have made a clear calculus: they don’t need prosperous economies to profit." Read, please! www.theguardian.com/commentisfre...

It's here. Pit in stomach feeling. www.theguardian.com/commentisfre...

This seems weird if you believe the goal was ever to eliminate deficit. It was not. It's about destroying the current state. It's working.

The Epic of Gilgamesh tells the story of king Gilgamesh’s quest for eternal life, but tucked within his epic story is another tale told by the oldest man in the world, Uta-napishti. It’s a story of the Flood and how Uta-napishti survived. The description of the storm itself is really something.
