And I am an ally. If you are too, let the world know.

I need to do more daily art. I think the catharsis is very important right now with such long days. I suspect my anxiety and depression keep my glucose high too, which is not great as a diabetic. Maybe the catharsis will keep it in check.

Important. The economic blackout on 2/28 is NOT just Walmart, Target, Amazon. I've seen some posts implying that. NO NO NO. It's an economic blackout. If it's not a local indie store, do not shop there on 2/28.

Look! A list with me on it! winteriscoming.net/celebrate-bl... (also some other Major Dudes)

I know someone who works at the Peoria Ag Lab. They're scrambling to reorganize and absorb the workload from vacated positions, but it's next to impossible, especially if there's another round of layoffs. This is the lab where penicillin was first mass produced. They do critical work for us all.

The Open Notebook rocks. Always has.

This is excellent news - but also points up why American health funding is vital for the entire world.

I liked Late Night With the Devil, it was fun.

Dear authors, if you post about "playing around" with AI, about "just using it to brainstorm," about how you always rewrite what it comes up with... publishers are taking notes, and we talk to each other.

I don't understand why people are still using X. If you are worried about losing an established network audience, some real numbers: I had 30K+ followers there and I have 13K here--the engagement is the same, if not better, here. Re-build. You don't *need* anything Muskrat's empire offers.

I've seen a few people mention (one to me) others before and now today that libraries are advocating free stuff/not sales for the author. Libraries don't acquire books by magic. They buy copies with money. It can be hundreds/thousands of sales. People pay taxes to use the library. Nothing is free.

Movies you've watched more than six times, gifs only.

RIP master Beksinski, I dedicate this sculpture to the great Polish artist & visionary, on this day his earthly body left us, but his art & legacy lives on.

A James Bond TV show for a streaming service in 2025 is gonna be insufferable. Just 10 episodes of a guy that doesn't call himself either James Bond or 007 yet and then in the final episode, he orders a martini, shaken not stirred, and we all politely clap and Season 2 takes 5 years to come out

I am begging you all to read this.

Answering some questions: the series covers the first novella "All Systems Red," I'm a consulting producer, and we've been working on it since 2021. (So it seems fast from the timing of the announcements but it has actually taken a million years in me-time.)

1. Despite Republican attacks in recent years, America is queerer than ever before. LGBTQ+ identification has risen to 9.3% in the last Gallup Poll, a huge jump from 7.6% last year. I cover the latest numbers in my story. Subscribe to support my journalism.

I have some shop announcements. First and foremost I am pleased to announce that @caztastrophe.bsky.social will be joining the team this spring, creating both wearable paracord creations and smol spikies with woven grips.

NEW: Pregnancy became far more dangerous in Texas after the state banned abortion, according to ProPublica’s first-of-its-kind analysis, which found the sepsis rate for women hospitalized as they miscarried in the 2nd trimester shot up by more than 50%. https://propub.li/43487Tj

83 years ago today, 120,000 Japanese-Americans were sent to internment camps across the country, simply due to their ethnicity. This shameful chapter of American history exists in living memory, as does its lesson — that unchecked executive power threatens our basic constitutional rights.

When ordered by Nazis to give lists of disabled people by disability severity, some doctors sent back exaggerated data to protect patients from forced work They didn't know that the "most disabled" were to be killed first The moral here isn't to tell the truth It's to never co-operate with Nazis

The bone crypt of Rothwell Holy Trinity Church dates to early 13thC and stored bones dug up to make new graves. Charnels stopped being used in England post reformation and were sealed or emptied. It was rediscovered in 1700 when a gravedigger ‘suddenly found himself precipitated into a dark abyss.’
