Someone should tell Elon that "The Handmaid's Tale" is not a guidebook.

If they are lucky, Trump will probably appear on the balcony and wave at the peasants.

Imagine being a reporter and being told "you need to fly to Greenland to see what they think about our President buying their country".

Trump's way of putting out fires is to douse with a can of gasoline, and he's very good at that.

Elon's interest in DOGE is basically because FAA was dragging its feet on granting launch permits to SpaceX, and because SpaceX was fined for silly things like releasing harmless water without a permit.

Kamala will make a great President, calling it now

Thanks, but I prefer to think with my brain, not with my balls. I think you may be mixed up there.

No of course I don't trust the state to keep me safe! That's why I always wear my tin foil hat.

'Fear of the other is clan mentality. It’s human narcissism in its raw, unadulterated form. Basically it says, “That which is like me is an extension of me and therefore safe and good. That which is unlike me is not an extension of me and therefore unsafe and bad.”'

I don't know about Sagan, but it's not just the Earth that is "just right" for life, it's the whole universe. Scientists struggle to explain the fine tuning problem; if fundamental constants were only slightly different there might be no stars, no galaxies, no planets. It's a Goldilocks Universe.

How far people fall, when to Donald Trump they are in thrall

Is that a real picture?

Europa Clipper is an exciting mission, certainly we have an awful lot more to learn about own "backyard". Some more missions to Venus would be cool too. Understanding why 2/3 of planets in the "habitable zone" do not have life may be as important as understanding why Earth does have life.

Oh, I absolutely comprehend the vastness. I am not saying the probability is zero, just that we don't know. It could be so low that intelligent life only arises in each galaxy once every 14 billion years. There could be 1 trillion galaxies. That is a vast amount of life; but none will ever meet.

I think it is irrational to say "there has to be life out there", that's a statement of belief. We really have no idea what the odds are. When we have properly surveyed several million exoplanets we might have a clearer idea, but that is a way off. Right now all we can say is we just don't know.
comment in response to post
Sure, but in what way? Humans are social animals, it seems we are desperate to be "not alone". It seems that knowing there are other life out there gives a warm fuzzy "not alone" feeling*, but practically speaking makes no difference whatsoever. *despite the fact there are 8 billion other humans

Another MAGA who would not look out of place in 1930s Germany.

Let's assume there is. What would that actually change?

Looking forward to see what roles CGI Sid James and Kenneth Williams get in "Carry On at the Airport", which I assume is the full title.

Obviously disappointing that anyone joins in with this conspiracy flap, but conspiratorial thinking seems to be as much to do with lack of trust in authorities and other factors as much as a political left/right divide.

Why so angry? All of the images and videos I have seen are obviously mundane objects. It's just the UFO saga all over again.
comment in response to post
I think that is a good point, to paraphrase Churchill : "a conspiracy meme can get a million views while the truth is still putting it's boots on".

No one takes a pic of a delivery drone and posts it with "OMG I saw a delivery drone!!!!". It's not news. OTOH, post a fuzzy orb pic and it's "OMG what is this thing invading our airspace????"

People who are dumb and scared turn out to be easier to exploit than people who are informed and rational. Autocrats will always prefer the former.

This song was originally part of a Christmas marketing campaign by the Bird Marketing Board, and we now think it is tradition.
comment in response to post
Trump convinced the turkeys not only to vote for Christmas, but also to pay for it.

"The job of the President is not to wield power, but to draw attention away from those that do" Douglas Adams had it. Trump creates outrage to distract, and he is good at it. The mainstream media lap it up.

TIL the USA had been considering annexing Greenland since 1867. I guess the US will need more land when large parts are inundated by global warming. Greenland will be renamed New Florida.
comment in response to post
Nevertheless, making obscene profits and shooting people you don't like are two pillars of US society.

I think in general yes: form a coalition to seize power and then one guy emerges from the pack and eliminates former colleagues/potential rivals, Hitler, Mao, Stalin, Saddam Hussein spring to mind. Fortunately the most Trump can threaten is to "primary" rivals so it's going to be more clown car.

Adults behaving like clowns is a subversive dig at the Fox audience imo.
