A thread on birthright citizenship I wrote in 2018, that unfortunately remains relevant. I always thought this was where it was all headed. Abolishing birthright citizenship for the non-white and non-rich. And why I teach on United States v. Wong Kim Ark every semester. Who was Wong Kim Ark? 1/

Spending the day honoring Dr. King and his profound wisdom. #MLKDay

Today I honor Martin Luther King’s eloquence, wisdom and bravery. I see you Dr. King — your fire will never diminish. Your light will never ever be put out.

Your annual reminder that Dr. King believed in guaranteed universal basic income that gave all people a dignified life, guaranteed housing for all, guaranteed access to a high quality education, and said that “no one should be forced to live in poverty while others live in luxury.”

Cecile Richards was a tireless advocate for reproductive justice, fighting not just for women’s access to healthcare, but for their dignity, autonomy, and equality. 19thnews.org/2025/01/ceci...

After years in the other place, this time I made sure half of the people I follow are artists and nature photographers. Fill your day with beauty like this...

That awkward moment when you realize that you have been watering a plastic poinsettia for two months.

For anyone shocked that Musk again overpromised and underdelivered on cutting $2B with DOGE, there's a whole website dedicated to tracking his BS elonmusk.today

Assume the unexpected and anticipate the unimaginable. #2025 is ours to create but it will require working together in new ways and holding tight to our core values (which will prove harder than we would like). A great moment to #InventTheFuture williamtheliar.substack.com/p/nockwood-r...

Surprising and yet not - how little we know of the brave, strong and smart women who came before. Let's hope we break the reinvent the wheel cycle and move to a more inclusive (anti-racist) approach to equality. This is a solid read. celestemdavis.substack.com/p/women-tell...

You’re the US Marines band at the White House and Mavis Staples 👑 walks into the room so you start playing "I’ll Take You There" and this happens👇

The 39th time we've had to post this, and this time about The Onion's original hometown.

I've struggled with vertigo for over a decade. I think I stumbled into the root cause this week... B12 (!). Why in the name of all that is holy has this NEVER come up. Fingers crossed. 💃

Remote video setup. Thanks #Brighthire for the portable ring light. Finding a way to get it off my glasses was all me 🤓

I keep getting really confused hearing new AI models are "dropping" - like they are a hit single. I feel short changed that all this time all I ever had was a "product release".

Some "best of" tone deaf conversations I have [to my embarrassment] been party to megbear.com/2024/12/07/o...

They’re planning a heist in plain sight.

I find it profoundly funny that people are pretending that "Elaborate schemes of fraud involving fake securities attached to a non-existent asset" were invented in 2021 and that the Founding Fathers of America wouldn't instantly grasp them with "Oh, it be like the South Sea Company scheme!"

Stick with me on this one - reading these two [long] blogs back to back gives you a masterclass on both business, markets and disruption. www.matthewball.co/all/audiotech www.profgalloway.com/media-consol...

BART service "has stopped in the Transbay Tube in all directions due to an earthquake detected." www.bart.gov

The piece is now published to web. Thanks @emgunter.bsky.social! Link: docs.google.com/document/d/e...

“Don’t feed the trolls” also extends to bad opinion pieces in papers of record. They run them bc people react to them the most. If we stop linking to bad columns and instead post thinkers we find valuable (& generate convo around it), incentives change. It’s not easy and takes constant practice!

Massive away win for the little fella.

In one of my lives, I write a daily newsletter about employment law. Salary licenses legal blogs through JDSupra. I pick what I want to talk about. Then I try to give some context, background, and insights on the topic. Today, it's transgender discrimination. www.salary.com/newsletters/...

I am not a music creator but I found this topic super compelling - seeing innovation focused on creators makes me happy. www.notboring.co/p/untitled

once again the number of trans kids prescribed puberty blockers every year is less than half the annual number of child marriages where one person (almost always a man) is old enough that it’d be rape if not for child marriage carve outs

Be selective with your battles. Sometimes, peace is better than being right.(Unknown)(Google photo) Happy Sunday, y'all.

the use of the history of Japanese internment as a manual rather than as a cautionary tale really sums up where we're at politically

this is so wild, idk if people elsewhere have seen this, right now dems are winning a brand new supermajority in the oregon state house by a grand total of 34 votes

Good morning #BlackSky Here’s your daily dose of Blue Sky and a reminder that you hold the key to unlocking all you see in the world.
