Keeping dialogue open across borders is essential for our long-term resilience. We are hearing US mayors speaking out against the Trump tariffs as concerns grow in terms of grave risk to local jobs and the economy in the US. The message is simple: weā€™re stronger together.

Should Canada impose dollar-for-dollar countervailing tariffs to the 25% U.S. tariffs imposed today, this number will climb by an additional $900 million annually, or $3.7 billion over four years, to procure the same quantity of products from the United States.

A 25% tariff over Trumpā€™s term will cost municipalities $3.7 billion, or nearly a billion annually, according to an FCM analysis. It is estimated that local governments procure over $3 billion annually from the United States.

We have a collective moral and ethical responsibility to help, not harm, the most vulnerable in our communities. Those in power must remember that their privilege should be used to serve, not for political or personal gain.

In the days ahead, I look forward to continuing the crucial work that is needed to deliver on what people across this city wanted when they voted for change.

Given all we face as a city, we need to come together, not block out the voices we donā€™t want to hear.Ā  Today, Mayor Ken Sim has abandoned the core principles that brought me to ABC. Afforadbility has not improved, property taxes are up, and Vancouverites have had enough.

I joined ABC because Mayor Ken Sim told us he wanted a diversity of opinions at the table. By his actions today, Mayor Ken Sim has shown that was never the case. I am disappointed by Mayor Ken Simā€™s actions, but in no way discouraged. In fact, I have never been more motivated.

Throughout my time in council, I believe I have been consistent in upholding that important principle.Ā  When I joined ABC along with Lisa Dominato and Sarah Kirby-Yung, I thought Mayor Ken Sim would be a true partner and an inclusive leader.
