Local leaders from Canada, the United States and Mexico are standing together as neighbours, friends and allies to call for an end to harmful tariffs. @rebeccaleebligh.bsky.social @mayoroliviachow.ca #CDNMuni #cdnpoli

Back in DC for US Conference of Mayor’s summit Friday w/ Canadian, Mexican & American delegations. Grateful to be joined by Ottawa Mayor Mark Sutcliffe & others from across Canada, including Windsor Mayor @drewdilkens and Surrey @MayorLocke - Co-Chairs Of the Border Mayors Alliance.

Day two of FCM’s Board of Directors meetings in Dorval has kicked off with a Committee of the Whole session focused on FCM’s priorities for the imminent federal election and the critical role municipalities are playing on a Team Canada approach to a Canada-U.S. trade war. #CDNMuni #cdnpoli

Top of mind in Dorval this afternoon: the local impacts and challenges related to U.S. tariffs.

That’s a wrap! Another successful board week - while we are facing unprecedented challenges as a country, cities and communities, urban and rural, continue to step up to meet the needs of their residents. So proud of the work we do advocating for national solutions to local challenges.

The FCM Board is meeting in Dorval next week – which means Board members from across the country will bring books from their communities to donate to a public library or school in the area. One my favourite FCM traditions, supported by @municipalworld. 1/2

Shoutout to ABC for giving my parents a surprise lawn makeover—because who needs consent when you have a sign, right?

Excited to shared my motion to Create an All-electric Passenger Ferry Service Between Vancouver and Bowen Island and Sunshine Coast passes with unanimous support! My statement below:

Glad to be in Saskatoon connecting with tireless local champions at #SARMAnnual2025 to hear local perspectives on top issues of the day, esp. how tariffs will impact communities here. In these uncertain times, one thing is clear: We’re stronger together. #CDNMuni #SKpoli #RuralMatters

No matter the challenge we’re facing, #CDNMuni will always be stronger together. Looking forward to FCM’s 2025 Annual Conference and Trade Show – an opportunity to connect, learn and collaborate in an ever-changing political and economic landscape. See you in Ottawa! fcm.ca/ac

This #IWD2025, I’m celebrating the resiliency of women in municipal leadership roles, like so many of my colleagues across the country at @fcm.ca and on council here in Vancouver. By working together, we can get even closer to equality in council chambers across the country.

When it comes to a tariff response, don’t underestimate the ground game of local leaders. Through FCM, municipalities are being heard loud and clear across the border. #CDNMuni #cdnpoli

There is a lot going on in the news cycle. For those still interested in housing, here are a few thoughts on #Budget2025 1. Phew! Given the economic uncertainty, we're happy that government is maintaining investment in non-profit and co-op housing, with 4,500 completions expected this year. 👇

FCM @fcm.ca condemns President Trump’s initiation of a trade war with Canada. Municipalities drive Canada’s economy and will feel the impacts of a U.S. trade war deeply. Together, we are Team Canada, and we’re stronger when united. 🧵

In good company in beautiful Northwest Territories on behalf of @fcm.ca with some phenomenal local leaders, like my friend Rebecca Alty, Mayor for Yellowknife and President of the NWT Association of Communities. Thanks for having me, and for sharing your local perspectives. #CDNMuni

President @rebeccaleebligh.bsky.social of the @fcm.ca at the NWTAC convention speaking with Mayor Frank Pope of Norman Wells NWT this morning about the work FCM is doing on behalf of Municipal Leaders across the country. #fcm

“At FCM, we are driving meaningful change at the level of government closest to Canadians, and together, we’re making a difference.” – FCM President @rebeccaleebligh.bsky.social 🗞️ businessviewmagazine.com/federation-c... #CDNMuni

Yesterday, the ABC-led decision to cut housing support for the homeless passed—a cruel and short-sighted policy. But I remain resolute in using my voice to advocate for real housing solutions that uplift people, not policies that push them further into hardship.

Judy Graves spent 33 years working with the City of Vancouver - most of it as the city's advocate for homeless people. She once told me, "Everybody has a body, and they need someplace to put it." I've never forgotten that.

It shouldn't be necessary, but the most impactful speakers against Mayor Sim's no net new supportive housing motion are those with lived experience. Here is someone who was formerly homeless showing Council how people stay warm when homeless in winter. He's holding up a burnt piece of wood.

I support efforts to move Vancouver toward adopting single-stair egress in residential buildings. This approach can increase housing supply, improve affordability, and create more livable spaces. All top priorities as we look to build our communities. #VanPoli #HousingAffordability #UrbanPlanning

Last night I had the privilege of joining the Coldest Night of the Year walk in the Downtown Eastside. This walk is more than just a fundraiser—it’s a reminder that no one should have to face cold nights alone.

Supportive housing is evidence-based and non-partisan. Not long ago, people experiencing homelessness had to "graduate" into housing - they couldn't get housing if they used substances or had a mental illness. How can you recover from anything without a home? Read on 👇

No reports of damage so far, after magnitude 5.1 earthquake rattles B.C.'s South Coast. globalnews.ca/news/1102978...

Very unnerving to feel that earthquake - especially in an older building in Vancouver. Every small seismic event is a reminder to get prepared.

🇨🇦🏒 Congrats to Team Canada on winning the 4 Nations Face-Off with a thrilling OT victory over Team USA! Proud of the skill, grit, and determination on display. Let’s go, Canada! 🇨🇦🥇 #TeamCanada #4NationsFaceOff #ProudCanadian

A trade war casts a shadow over entwined Canada-U.S. supply chains – and a steakhouse staple. www.theglobeandmail.com/business/art...

I first ran for city council because things needed to be done differently at City Hall. Regardless of the issue, I wanted to make sure that voices from all corners of our city are lifted up and included — not silenced and marginalized.🧵

A trade war has the potential to devastate industries and businesses in communities on both sides of the border. Relationships across borders will get us through this economic challenge together. Thanks to @CanEmbUSA, @leagueofcities and @NACoTweets for meeting with FCM today.

Day 2 in Washington for FCM CEO Carole Saab, President @rebeccaleebligh.bsky.social, Big City Mayors’ Caucus Chair Josh Morgan, and Rural Forum Chair Neal Comeau, meeting with U.S. partners to help protect jobs and keep our local economies strong. #CDNMuni #cdnpoli

Businesses in both Canada and the U.S. – and the communities they support – would deeply feel the impacts of a tariff war between the two countries.     Thanks, Premier Doug Ford and US Chamber of Commerce for hosting today. #CDNMuni #cdnpoli
