need to be proficient in both characterization as well as in life. So that both the skill of acting and awareness of self can be developed. So that you can do the work and verify its honesty and truth.
What is a good actor? It's someone who can be honest and truthful inside a fictitious story.

your self-awareness. The more YOU the take feels like, the better. I would argue that we train so that your 3rd take can feel as honest as possible - as much as possible - to a point where that take could conceivably be the final take.

The "you of the past" is also a character you can utilize in characterization. I'm sure the high school version of you was somewhat/drastically different than the "you" of today, right? Consider imbuing that character in the audition with some traits from your high school self. That could be fun. π

3. But more importantly, commercial VO is about the human and our own self-awarenesses. Because that script is about us, individually as human beings, it forces us to "be" us. And if you can authentically exist in an IRL story about you, you can do the same in a fictitious story as well.
