Sorby Natural History Event: Snail lecture by the retired Prof Robert Cameron.

Lichen Haul :) indicator species largely at that

At @nature.org we're launching a new monthly webinar series highlighting cutting-edge research and innovation at the intersection of climate, biodiversity, and human well-being. The first webinar is TODAY - click below to register & participate or watch the video later!

Lichen ID-ing certain species are also useful as indicator species for nitrogen pollution!

My magma can't intrude between layers of rock. Sill issue #GeologistProblems

I love environmental science being multidisciplinary Currently doing an env change assignment on the decline of megafauna and ecological consequences. But I get to be nosy at other disciplines, I got to read into this whale shark reproduction behavior paper :P www.frontiersin.org/journals/mar...

I've been trying to find research placements for environmental science-relevant disciplines, but it seems to be a very uncommon occurrence in the UK. Does anyone have advice for what I should be looking for? Besides BAS, which haven't been released yet this year, are there any other places?

In 2025, the Wilberforce Business Academy will empower businesses to take decisive action against #modernslavery within their supply chains. eventbrite.co.uk/e/child-labo... To use your free, online training with experts, join child labour expert Asude Oruklu, this Fri 10 Jan 2-2.45 pm.

Sphagnum found during some volunteering i did with the yorkshire wildlife trust where we removed an ornamental invasive species plant (Rhododendron ponticum) Sphagnum and disciplines around bogs and wetlands was my entry into this field and always gets me excited seeing it. (Espec in yorkshire!)

New flex! I got to volunteer with The Wildlife Trust. W/ a combination of on-site surveying, historical maps and some literature. We re-examined the distributions of ancient forests within and around sheffield. For classification. I learnt a lot about history which I didn't expect.

@earth-science.bsky.social 👋🏻 Marine Geologist here, would you please add me to the Earth Scientists feed? Thx

there are so many weird guys in the compost pile I can't decide who to look at

As an undergrad student, I find it a little daunting trying to connect and talk to people who are so much more advanced in their fields. I want to especially do it due to wanting to further into research and learning more, but I'm not sure what's the "polite" way to. Any advice?

One of our weird discoveries: 1st field-documented case of a zebra mussel attached to a fish (lake chub). This phoretic association could facilitate 1) within-basin spread of zebra mussels via fish migration & 2) overland transport by anglers moving baitfish. redpath-staff.mcgill.ca/ricciardi/Ri...

I see a lot of people with a range of cool interests and disciplines, I'd love to hear from people what you do or something interesting you learnt recently :) (Also some photos of things I saw on campus)

Have some grub

I wonder where they're all going 🤔

One more thing, I think I'll show off today, but with my university, we went to skipsea to look at sediment stratigraphy from glacial deposits. But there was also a lake bed from the holocene and there were woodchips with bever bite marks as well as previously there had been bever hair.

I thought I might as well show off some cool things I got to do lately: I went sphagnum moss plug planting to help with peatbog restoration and saw some beautiful landscapes. Sphagnum moss is also just really cool!

I have a lot of interests so I'll be adding in thread (the curse of being multidisciplines) Paleoclimate - For my dissert I'll be using pollen samples of an archived core (used for fire ecology previously) to give characteristics about hydroclimate Glaciology facet I'd love to explore more too!
