The NC20 amendment wasn't voted on, but NC1 (I really need to find the actual docs) was successful - abortion was voted to be decriminalised. There was one part of Creasy's amendment that made it much harder to reverse, so wanted to know if NC1 also has this.

Inside Amsterdam’s high-stakes experiment to create fair welfare AI www.technologyreview.com/2025/06/11/1... - The Dutch city thought it could break a decade-long trend of implementing discriminatory algorithms. Its failure raises the question: can these programs ever be fair?

I really didn't realise that abortion was a crime in England (to my shame). Could we stop laying claim to women's bodies please? Also writing to MP on NC20 so that we can decriminalise abortion and make it a protected human right Also worth signing 👉 you.38degrees.org.uk/petitions/de...

Tomorrow I'm on holiday for a solid 10 days. I'm desperately trying to finish my current book ("Left Hand of Darkness" - yeeesh, I've been slow to finish it), BUT! what book(s) would you recommend? My ideal criteria: - NOT series - Funnny - Light Recommendations? ❤

It really saddens me that as the years go on the more I get annoyed with Next.js. My latest gripe is that it's trying to build a tmp directory that I've got ignored everywhere, but `next build` is STILL trying to build the files and throwing errors. Why is "just works" diametrically opposed to DX?

If you want to come to @pixelpioneers.co Bristol on 20 June and haven't got a ticket yet, you really should get it sorted asap. We're near capacity, and there aren't many tickets left now!

What are you doing instead of sleeping? Me, PCB design (because day job javascript isn't enough 🤷). First draft nearly done, then lots of cleaning to do. On that note (top right), gotta sort the washing out!

There is no democracy or justice for trans people in the UK. I am so very sick of this place and just being expected to soldier on.

It's 🧪🌍 #WorldEnvironmentDay today. As a webbie, developer or designer, you should set aside some time to watch the brilliant talk from @lilnatw.bsky.social at #FFConf in 2022: ffconf.org/talks/2022_l...

I haven’t been able to stop thinking about this NYT article about programming work at Amazon (https://www.nytimes.com/2025/05/25/business/amazon-ai-coders.html) because it perfectly illustrates how “productivity” trends in AI in the workplace benefit so few.

Am camping this weekend, so trying to decide if it's too early for a beer right now...🤔

It's this last point that's starting to settled in my head and I'm realising it's another barrier to block out the "others". The idea that you don't pay, you can't play. infosec.exchange/@SecurityWri...

I'm considering, is stupid click bait better handled by not including a link, or is that just Streisand effect in action?

Just read (most of) that Fly article. Wow. Firstly, pretty sure that belonged on a personal blog, but you do you. Too many hot (turd) takes to quite swallow whole. Could have been a post on _how_ instead of finger-jabbing-you're-less-than. That's the sad bit.

Thing I wrote on the weekend (mostly to get my 2nd post of May delivered, but it was brewing anyway!)

@webdevconf.com wonder if you're still taking lighting talk submissions, though equally I'm a bit old and don't fit the new criteria. Keep thinking about a short talk on how to fix a Gameboy

Look, I wrote this in the car, and published it all from my phone, and I'm not entirely sure I'm saying anything new, but... here you: "AI: did you check your work". A recent experience that makes me, as usual, concerned. remysharp.com/2025/05/31/a...

Fricking ache. Spent the 4 hours getting LetsEncrypt wildcard SSL sorted on jsbin. I had to lean on chatgpt and claude and duckduckgo to finally get there (I definitely would not have made it myself), but now it's in place and fully automated (touch wood), and that's one less thing to worry about.

SSL cert expired. So yes, I'm upgrading the entire operating system to fix it. Yay devlife (and ignoring update requests!)

What's up? We've set our #FFConf ticket release date is what's up. Checkout my mad-non-ai-generative-design-skills below. 26th June, 11am BST. Stick it in the diary. Early access limited batch, with further batch dates to be released. (and yes, I *am* working on the web site - that's coming soon!)

Do I do a clever thing in CSS, but the image is a background image to get a filter to work, or do I just shove the thin into photoshop and bake it in the oven?

I'm liking using baseline eslint tools in my CSS (if you're on our #FFConf newsletter you'd have seen), but, I suspect it still needs a bit more tweaking (I guess it's new-ish)... Pretty sure `text-align: left` *is* widely available before 2019…(probably, I'd imagine, related to baseline dataset 🤷)

I wrote about non-performative allyship, because I think it's important that we build the kind of communities, companies and industries where more people can thrive.

My son bought an "AI hat" but he keeps telling me that's not what it means. The silly monkey.
