Tijuana is bustling with life, diverse cultures, history, and amazing food, with over three million people. We were scheduled to visit another shelter site, but we were feeling the mental and emotional exhaustion of the day before. We rested for the remainder of the day.

Oh we had those in Seattle. I didn't have one in Tijuana but I had a tilapia taco.

If there's anything I've learned from this, it's build your hope where you are, so others can find it. ❤️

At the last church, the pastor died of Covid, and then they ordained his widow. Because they ordained a woman the church was kicked out of the association. The church also lost all its US funding recently. Still, the pastor took us up to the roof and shared her dreams of expanding. +

The bracelet was made by a 19 year old at the DV shelter and she gave it to me. Another little girl at the shelter told me she wants to be a pastor when she grows up. ❤️‍🩹 3) last stop was another church turned into a migrant shelter, led by a woman pastor, serving Central & South American migrants. +

SCOTUS holds that the EPA *cannot* order cities to maintain acceptable water quality standards by limiting the discharge—usually sewage—that they dump into nearby bodies of water (like oceans and bays). The four women justices, dissenting, say that's ridiculous. www.supremecourt.gov/opinions/24p...

We got to meet Rocky, the current director of the center. He and I hit it off. He used to live in Wisconsin and asked me if I liked hockey. Here's a photo of us at the border. You can learn more about Rocky's story here: youtu.be/jvFNjgsmGFM?...

You can still receive military benefits if you are deported, but you can't return to the US. Until you die. Your body can be returned to the US and be buried with full military honors. The only way Deported Veterans can return to the country they were willing to die for is in a body bag.

I've been tired every time I've tried to run, and I could barely do a mile. Then this morning I had a good song on my playlist, and didn't look at my watch until after and I had broken through the mile mark a while back. Didn't even feel tired.

And as of yesterday, 47 months until the next inauguration day. (If there is one. I know). Midterms are closer than you think. Now is the time to learn what races are coming up for ALL elections. WI just had a primary last week for state superintendent. Get ready and be prepared.

This is the thing I have never understood when people who say they want a revolution to uplift vulnerable communities also downplay what happens to vulnerable communities in a dictatorship.

I just texted Carolyn. We just switched banks last week so I know some of it was getting our new payment portal set up.

But I told them that I'd been very worried for a bit because I know how hard it is to exist right now. They told me they greatly appreciated it and didn't mind the extra texts and voicemails. Good reminder it doesn't hurt to show a little extra care and concern in these days.

I called their work number. They didn't pick up. An hour later I called their cell. They didn't pick up. I texted again and let them know I was worried. A short time later I got a call. They had locked themselves out and their cell phone was in their office. We had a good laugh in that moment. +

The literal wealthiest man in the world donating hundreds of millions of dollars to a presidential campaign and getting rewarded with a government post where he can award his companies with contracts is the most cartoonish possible rendering of what people warned about after Citizens United.

Mine is around the corner. But I am worried most people don't even know we have an election tomorrow.
