This could happen because Hitler had been agitating and lying for about ten years. The normal thing gets replaced by the abnormal thing. Don't think this couldn't happen in your country. #Trump

If you know any military leaders — from junior NCOs to 4-star generals — probably a good time to reinforce the idea with them that their oath is to the Constitution, not the President, and certainly not the Secretary of Defense.

21st February 1945: first flight of the Hawker Sea Fury. Fast, heavily armed and robust, the aircraft was initially manufactured as a fighter, but most made were FB.11 fighter-bombers. Sea Furies saw extensive FAA and RAN use in the Korean War and were exported to several other countries. 🧵1/6

Market Garden failed. Not because roads are narrow in Holland, not because British 30 Corps was slow and not because there were two German Panzer Divisions in the area. It failed because this bridge in Nijmegen was captured too late. Read/buy my two books. pre-jump.nl

#OTD, 109 years ago, the Battle of Verdun - the longest of the First World War - commenced with an attack across an approximately 30km front. Continuing until 18th December, each side suffered somewhere around 400,000 casualties, and the scars of the battle are still visible across the landscape.

80 years ago - 21st Feb 1945, near Iwo Jima. Carrier USS Saratoga was attacked by Japanese aircraft and hit multiple times by both bombs and kamikazes. Damage was severe; 123 crew were killed and 192 injured, while 40 aircraft were lost. Saratoga was repaired, but saw no further combat service. 🧵1/5
