This year's student-created bookmark contest winners are now available at checkout! We had both hand drawn and digital categories. They turned out great!

Found today on the floor of my middle school library. What strange things have you found recently? #TLSky

Starting the weekend with the latest in a favorite series by @jamesponti.bsky.social shipped by the ever-wonderful @parnassusbooks.bsky.social! If you haven't gotten on this middle school series, consider this your invite! It's one of the few series I have read past book 1. Worth it! #TLSky

When it's a Friday afternoon in a school library and you forget to water the plants, you make a real obvious reminder for Monday. #TLSky

It's National Rubber Ducky Day! I bought some on Amazon & hid cards I made on Canva throughout the library for students to find. Lucky finders got to pick a rubber duck! I only advertised on our LMS library page. It was great! (TL,DR: Libraries are more than books. They're fun, too!) #TLSky #EduSky

While libraries are on my mind. Please pause for a moment and realize how amazing the library is. You walk in and say, I would like this book/info/space to sit/reading hour/book club/knitting circle. And they say, welcome. Our doors are open to you. They are lighthouses of democracy. Fight for them.

I love this annual tradition of making paper snowflakes with @mamagilbs.bsky.social and hanging them on our kitchen cabinets. Easy and fun!

Leave out a Scrabble board in the library, they said. Middle schoolers are the best. This gem was found after the students went to class one morning. #TLSky

I treated my Student Library Advisory Team to a celebration today to thank them for all their hard work in the library so far this year. We had a hot chocolate bar and some chocolate (and non-choc) treats. They were ecstatic! #schoollibrary #TLSky

Exciting News #TLSkyChat !! @jenniferlagarde.bsky.social and I will be hosting the FIRST Teacher Librarian Chat on BlueSky next Wednesday, December 4th. ✅ Each chat will be on Wednesday at 8pm EST (5pm PST) ✅ Add the feed by pinning this chat: bsky.app/profile/did:...

#EduSky! Join me for thoughts about school libraries and education-related topics. This happened in my library last week!

A highlight of my week was hosting the Art Foundations class in my library and inviting them to explore the library's drawing books, adding ideas to their sketchbooks. Many were checked out at the end, too! #TLSky #Skybrarians

glad to be here!

Really enjoyed spending time with my Student Library Advisory Team today after school. We talked about ideas for a new book club, changed our displays, and played Book Title Pictionary! They are such a great crew who love reading and our library. ♥️📚

The VAASL conference was exactly what we needed this past week! Keynotes and sessions were great, but most of all, the reunion of seeing all librarian friends is always the best part. It was great to get some time afterwards in Yorktown, too!

It's ginger cat appreciation day! This one didn't appreciate being told that while he was surveying the backyard for possible intruders.

I think my cat is broken.

I've gotten a lot of new followers lately, so welcome! I don't post often, but when I do, it's usually related to school libraries, reading, teenagers, or tech. Looking forward to connecting with you all!

This article is a must read for school librarians, teachers, tech specialists, and admin: www.nytimes.com/2024/04/24/o...

I love the annual Maker Monday when students create post it art in my library windows! Lots of creativity and fun! All it cost was some super sticky post it's.

Excited for this mega episode on Inclusive Programming from the dynamic duo @rgrov1013.bsky.social and @mamagilbs.bsky.social! Tune in March 1

I love the annual 3D cell model lesson that I do each year in my library makerspace with my 7th grade science classes. All reusable materials, no waste, and blended learning at its finest!

Looks like a longer winter break for this librarian - tested positive for the first time. I'm feeling mega anxious about it - I have an anxiety disorder anyway. Anyone else with anxiety go through this? How did you manage your anxiety specifically?

Ask kids to make a winter scene without using white. And make it in 3D (not just drawn). They will wow you! (Also: Can you figure out the story on the ice rink?)

Let's just add NBCT to my signature too! 2023 has been a wild ride of accolades for me!

This is such a fabulous write up of my Librarian of the Year win by my district. Positive press at the district level of the essential work librarians do is always welcome! www.fcps.edu/news/librari...

As the final activity of Dinovember, students created dinos from recycled materials. Y'all. 🤣

This is apparently what teenagers think newly hatched or teen dinosaurs would look like. Ha! Dinovember in my middle school library is excellent.

This week's episode of School Librarians United is brought to you by the #LibrarianPowerCouple - @mamagilbs.bsky.social & me! Belonging is a topic near and dear to both of us and @slupodcast.bsky.social helped us make our podcast dreams a reality. Definitely give it a listen!

If you haven't read @drtlovesbooks.bsky.social's Knowledge Quest blog from today, stop what you're doing & read it. I always appreciate Steve's approach and perspective on various topics, this one is the strongest yet. Bravo, my friend. knowledgequest.aasl.org/reconsiderin...

Put some markers on a whiteboard during Dinovember with the prompt: Draw your best dinosaur. Y'all. Not 1 inappropriate drawing and these are great! Middle schoolers for the win.

Wanna see book magic? These girls just helped unbox brand new books for our school library and they are already engrossed.

Yesterday, I was so humbled to receive the Virginia Librarian of the Year award from VAASL. "With power and privilege comes great purpose" and I'm looking forward to what's next. My librarian family, and being part of a #LibrarianPowerCouple with @mamagilbs.bsky.social, are the only way I thrive.
