The Australian and Canadian results are reminders that, yes, you do need to compromise with the electorate to win, but you also need to be willing to stick down lines in the sand and say 'this is what we believe in' on some things. That is a lesson that our own government could do with learning.

Whatever you think of Harry or the royal family, it’s pretty unprofessional to start doing an impression of him while you’re supposed to be interviewing him.

People have to go different places, and especially outside London, public transport is beyond dire. Cardiff council have done their best to make it a pain to drive in town, and I will still choose that as an option, because it’s so much better than getting the bus here.

Oh absolutely fuck offfffff

For what little it's worth, my contribution to this morning's "here's why today's result proves how I was right all along" discourse is that it feels increasingly clear to me they should have reversed the NI cuts and gone all out on trying to fix public services.

Labour's biggest issue is neither being too socially conserative or not socially conservative enough. It's cuts. People have had enough.

Not a political strategist, but one lesson Labour might take from this litmus test of their platform is that the efforts they are making to lessen the political cost of doing difficult but necessary things aren’t, in fact, doing that. But it *is* muddling the message & stymying the pace of progress.

as always with this guy, "alleged Nazi sympathiser" is extremely funny paired with the picture

This is one of the most-shared posts on Bluesky in the past day and it's just completely false. You might think ChatGPT is a *bad* search engine, or prefer another search engine. But it has had integrated web search since last year.

Well that's Polygon immediately out of my rotation www.thewrap.com/polygon-layo...

“Westminster” is it, aye. “Westminster”. I wonder who was in charge of “Westminster” in the years you identify. Ah well, I’m sure we can’t identify them - perhaps we’ll never know! - so let’s blame “Westminster” as a whole.

Would depositing the world’s largest straw man in the middle of the discourse count as fly-tipping? Asking for a friend.

personally would like to see every store show what part of the price increase is due to tariffs bc if these tariffs ever come down, i need to see that price go right back down

No doubt it would be electorally popular if Labour were able to 'deliver' public service improvements without further broad-based tax rises, openness to immigration, closeness to the EU, or openness to global trade more broadly. But that fact does not impose an obligation on the universe.

don't want to beef with the specific person who posted this but don't understand why so many people are reluctant to understand that, actually, to quite a lot of people, the idea of just staying at home alone all week fucking sucks? wanting to leave the house and talk to people is normal!

temu addicts hardest hit

This is an absolute dogshit study, with “findings” being massively over-reported despite immense shortcomings and limitations. BBC have an article, and they practically debunk it… but really deep in the article.

Starmer's bending over backwards for these people and it will never be enough for them. They're your political enemies, start treating them as such!

Oh by the way she's still not happy (and never will be) - sadly has enough money to make it everyone's problem. Common theme!

As a Labour MP Clive should probably be aware that Labour launched a major crackdown on tax avoidance during the Spring Statement. So, I guess, he's trying to support the govt here? Or just being a idiot. One or the other.

When I was writing about these pronatalist people this week I came across this anecdote from the Guardian about the guy In the CNN clip.

Absolutely fucking insane, evil, and *obviously* unworkable. What inept evil fucker came up with this shit?

The EHRC have been taken oven by rancid, vile transphobes who are seeking to actively harm trans people. This is revolting, and I’m deeply concerned that the government haven’t taken this as an opportunity to legislate to protect trans people.

he’s right and he’s right to say it

Continue to think there is so much sticking heads in the sand around this in left-of-centre discourse which is going to look painfully outmoded within months let alone years

There are times when a decent person would quit rather than preside over a sick farce. This is one of those times.

BBC muzzling one of its best presenters from making an excellent, wholly factual programme because heat pumps are “controversial”. An organisation badly in need of new leadership.

SORRY. Sorry. Have we seen this *incredible* news video coming out of Queensland? Wait for the witness/witnesses statement

MPs should be allowed second jobs, at least to some extent, because many professions we’d actually want MPs from have re-registration requirements and MP candidates shouldn’t feel they’re risking their entire future career for what could be a tiny stint in Parliament.

This is why the man is impossible to deal with. Changes his bloody mind (and in potentially any direction!) at the drop of a hat and is as liable to do it on big strategic decisions that usually require months of thought and planning as 'what shall I ask the chef to cook for me tonight'.

the one silver lining to all of this is seeing this parade of dipshits get their just desserts

has hell frozen over???
